It’s time we started making the churches in this country pay their fair share of taxes. We could eliminate payroll taxes entirely with just the property taxes of the Catholic Church alone.

"Its time we started making the churches in this country pay their fair share of taxes. " They certainly should lose their exempt status if they take an active stand on political/legal issues. Especially if they are promoting illegal activity.

Cannot tax a right, especially something that’s normally interpreted as being covered by the First amendment.

Yeah, like the government will really eliminate taxes in one area if they get an income stream from another sector. It'll just happily spend even more money, and the new burden on churches will only further consolidate governmental power in education and charity.

There must be 25,000 illegals in Oxnard alone.

Simi Valley is an odd place for a church to harbor an illegal. It is very conservative, and thousands of cops live there.

That’s a pretty big claim. Care to back it up with details and facts?

I think churches which advocate a political agenda should be subjected to a tax just like any other political action group.
This particular church should have all its assets seized and the clergymen involved in aiding and abetting the violation of U.S. law prosecuted as Federal Statute requires. And that is conservative thinking, not liberal thinking.

One immigrant-rights advocate was injured with a chemical spray during Sunday's confrontation at the United Church of Christ, and police were investigating allegations that an opposing protester was responsible Nice touch.

Once the Churches pay property taxes, they should also be allowed to criminalize any antichristian activity and incarcerate all the atheists in government, as well as being given the right to determine civil law within the country. This would include exercising capital punishment on Wiccans and other witches.

For the record - I’m Catholic. And also for the record I am for religion just not for business masquerading as religion. I think ALL churches, not just Catholic churches, should pay property taxes and corporate taxes.
Take a good look at them, THEY ARE BUSINESSES. If they were walking the walk then government would have never been able to get a toehold in the charity business and we wouldn’t be taxed to death to pay for it. A true separation of church and state would be churches in the charity business and government out of the charity business.
Churches/organized religion should be feeding the hungry, housing the homeless and helping those in need. That is what their nonprofit status is supposed to be for. Instead they are always trying to build bigger and more grandiose buildings than the church down the block. Every minister and priest in my county is driving around in a brand new SUV or luxury car. So much for the vow of poverty. They are businesses and nothing more and should be taxed as such. End of sermon.
