ETA car bomb fails to detonate in Logroño

Security forces investigating the attack believe the perpetrators are not terrorists known to the police The 61 kilos of explosives in the car failed to go off

Last Sunday night terrorists belonging to the Basque organisation ETA parked a car packed with 61 kilos of explosives outside Ministry of Defence buildings in Logroño (La Rioja). Fortunately the bomb failed to explode due to a fault in the detonating fuse, explained the Secretary of State for Security, Antonio Camacho. The security forces are investigating whether the terrorists who planted the bomb form part of a “legal” cell, in other words, activists who are not known to the police and probably have normal jobs from Monday to Friday.

Warning of the Logroño bomb came in the form of a telephone call to the Basque newspaper “Gara” at around 11 p.m. on Sunday. The caller said he was speaking in the name of ETA and explained that half a hour later a bomb would explode opposite the Defence buildings.

The area in question was immediately cordoned off. The explosion that followed however was no louder than a firecracker let off at a fair. Officers located the vehicle where the explosion had come from and discovered that the car was actually packed with explosives that had failed to go off. They then set about defusing the bomb, managing to prevent any damage to the vehicle in order to preserve fingerprints and other evidence. Their work, with the help of robots, went on until six o’clock the next morning. The car, a green Ford Fiesta that had been stolen earlier this month in France, had been given false number plates, identical to those of a similar vehicle registered in Fuengirola.

This is the fifth attempted attack on the part of ETA since the formal end to the ceasefire. On September 2nd there was a small explosion on the N-232 near Fuenmayor, also in La Rioja. Since the end of the ceasefire 27 terrorists have been arrested and more than 600 kilos of explosives seized.

The bad news: ETA is still very much active.

The good news: It appears they are now having to rely on incompetent bomb makers.

Yeah, I thought this was an interesting characterization. I guess they might need to bring in some professionals.

Zapatero’s efforts at making nice-nice with the ETA terrorists has ended with zilch. Typical leftie (talk-talk) who in January had to admit to the Spanish people he had been completely fooled by ETA.

Ironic, he owes his election to terrorism and his desire to surrender to it and now it may cause him to be thrown out of the office. ETA obviously knew a patsie when they saw one.

Here is hoping Shoe-Boy gets the boot.
