Governor Deval Patrick plans to propose as early as tomorrow that the state sell licenses for three full-scale resort casinos in Massachusetts, citing their potential to spur economic growth, create jobs, and generate new government revenue, according to State House officials who have been briefed on his plan.
Patrick will recommend that the casinos be licensed in three regions: Southeastern Massachusetts, Western Massachusetts, and an area that includes Boston and points north, the officials said...
All three licenses would be put up for competitive bid, in a process that is expected to raise hundreds of millions of dollars in immediate and direct state revenue...
The Mashpee Wampanoag Indian tribe would have to outbid other competitors if it wishes to quickly proceed with its plans for a resort-style casino in Middleborough, the officials said. If the tribe decides against seeking a state license or fails to receive one in the bidding process, it could still proceed with a longer, more arduous federal approval process that could result in a fourth Massachusetts casino.
Patrick, in framing the arguments to back his endorsement of expanded gambling, will tout the potential economic benefits to the state more than the financial benefits to the fiscally strapped state government.
But the lure to state budgeters is clear: Patrick and other leaders are searching for billions of dollars needed to repair bridges and roads, improve education, and provide cities and towns with property tax relief.
When Patrick presents his plan, which is scheduled to be tomorrow, his announcement will be seen as a political watershed for his administration.

1) Prey on the gambling junkies for quick change
2) institute more permanent spending programs
3) repeat
Bordellos next, then perhaps child tippling houses - all for the children you know.
Sure beats the Indians monopolizing casino action in Massachusetts and contributing little or nothing in taxes. Indian casinos always try to worm their way out of paying state taxes that everyone else does including private owned casinos
Some states are lucky enough to have their Indian casinos making reasonable tax payments though they are called “payments in lieu of taxes” because Indians play their sovereign nation game. Which is -— they are sovereign when it suits them
At the moment Florida is in heavy negotiations with the insanely greedy Seminoles to determine how their casino operations will be taxed. Their “sovereign nation” casino is right smack dab in downtown Hollywood Florida.
Apparently there are two casinos in Conn ?

We have a local Casino that is very courteous and accommodating to King Vanity.
We don’t go to often anymore due to his health issues but the staff and other regulars are always very friendly and chat with him.
Took him up for a few hours last week as a surprise for some social time and he loved all the mega attention. Was good to see him perk up a bit.
I have a pal who lives in Mass.
and she hates the govt. Dems who run the show...she said when Romney was Gov. the state actually came in under budget and for the life of her she was shocked he ever won as a (R) but was just as upset that he only stayed one term.
The nice things about Casinos is for those of us who cant travel the entertainment comes to our area and the security is excellent.
When we do go we always have one or two security people come let us know if we need anything they have us in there sights.
Allot of people who coincidently who work there have worked with kids with severe physical handicaps or are parents who have raised them.
So they get it.
So much for the Mitt Romney “Financially Conservative” legacy, eh?
I don’t think Romney had anything to do with Governor Devil PPPPPatrick’s plan.
GOVERNOR PATRICK knows slot machines and table games are not the stuff of human ideals that he talked about in his campaign. To say the very least. More comments on this at Squaring the Boston Globe.
