According to figures provided by Reuters, 8,745 of the border crossing cards went astray last year in Ciudad Juarez, south of El Paso, Texas, and 3,095 in Tijuana, opposite San Diego, California. No figures were available for other cities along the 2,000-mile border.

Buncha stuff here:
the US is getting zero help from the Fox government in Mexico City during the course of investigations.
Uh, I believe Mr. Fox has been out of office for some time. Is this article current?
The ATM card-sized documents, which include the legal holder's photograph and scanned fingerprints
If it's got your pic and prints on it, what value would it have to anyone else?
This is a very strange article.

Well over 11,000 of these Laser Visas, issued to Mexicans for legitimate
travel into the United States were reported stolen or "lost" in just two border cities.
"Stolen": translation, sold and the "theft" isn't reported until
the payee has entered the USA.

The theft of "high-tech" id cards gives me all kinds of confidence in the "high-tech" fence too.
WHERE'S THE FENCE???

As I said in another thread, you can’t be serious about national security unless you’re serious about border security.

There can be no doubt....criminals are resourceful, and normally more money with which to operate.

Since these cards have fingerprint scans on them, I infer that we’re not actually checking them when the card is presented. Why are we bothering to put biometric info on the cards if we’re not going to use it?
This story illustrates the nonsense that is the claim that we can furnish everyone with “counterfeit proof” id.
