A small but growing coffeehouse chain is changing its name amid concern that the moniker meant to celebrate the seed of its main product also is a disparaging term for Hispanics.
Juan Tornoe, an Austin, Texas-based Hispanic marketing consultant, said it's clear to him and should be to anyone that Beaner's name is about coffee, not contempt. But the name change could be a smart move for a company with national aspirations: By 2050, nearly a quarter of the U.S. population will be of Hispanic heritage.

In other news, a popular national fast food restaurant chain has decided in the interest of cultural sensitivity to change its name to “Big T Bell”.

I’ve been acquainted with quite a few Americans of Mexican descent. Most of them aren’t bothered by stuff like that.

Beaner’s Coffee sounds like a logical name-coffee comes from beans. Why people have their minds in the gutter and see only a racist meaning reflects our society’s sorry state of affairs.

By 2050, nearly a quarter of the U.S. population will be of Hispanic heritage. I thought Algore said we'll all be dead when the world burns up from global warming in 10 more years (2017). These guys' math don't work. If you believe Algore's "truth," 100% of the U.S. population in 2050 are going to be mutants.

On a related note, Mick’s Pub is keeping its name, but Spic n Span has decided to emulate Beaner’s Pub. Henceforth, it will be known only as Span.

In a elated story, the Wop Pasta chain is considering a name change.

According to the Oxford English Dictionary, the term was preceded by "bean-eater," a slur against Latin-Americans, particularly Mexicans. The earliest example goes back to 1919, and the first recorded use of beaner as a derogatory term was 1965. "Beaner's" to "Bean Eaters"? Fer cryin' out loud! What a great lot of pansies...
By 2050, nearly a quarter of the U.S. population will be of Hispanic heritage.
Contributed my part. Hispanic heritage, ALL AMERICAN mind you...
I'm continually disgusted that we see, more and more, the use of the term "Hispanic" as a proxy for "Illegal Alien".
Not if we set our immigration policy on Cruz control.
I'm sure you'll have lots of eager volunteers to assist there.
