Not funny at all. Really very, very sad. There was a young man from Zimbabwe in my college dorm many years ago. A number of capable and moderate blacks were available to lead the country when the dumb-ass Jimmy Carter decided to back the current leadership due to idealogical compatibility.
Mugabe finally achieves the status of Leningrad during the siege.
Would not be surprised to hear reports of canabalism soon.
Who is dumber, Jimmy Carter or the people that follow him? It is sad, but perhaps a lesson will be learned here for a better future for their nation. However I am not optimistic.

I refute the thus:

Mugabe was always this way, just that he had restraints upon him by his Communist mentors and the likes of Jummy Carter. Mugabe was under pressure to keep his image consistent with that they had manufactured. When his mentors and patrons lost their influence in the world, Mugabe was freed from their constraints.
He still played the game for a while, mainly being constrained by TuTu, Mandella, Mbeki and Obasanjo who replaced the original patrons.
But when he lost a plebicite on a constitutional amendment that would have entrenched his power for life he abandoned any pretence at constitutionality or adherence to the rule of law. He quickly learned tha the African political constraints were no constraints at all.
And some silly people blame Africans for their problems.
Yep, but I would also add greed and hence the siren call of communism that sorta got them in this mess in the first place.
And if they did, Mugabe would be keeping the profits anyway. These poor ba*tards are sunk.
