New Haven (WTNH) _ A veteran TV and film actor hit the airwaves at a New Haven radio show and made some sup rising comments on the anniversary of 9/11.
It was about 9:15 on the morning of 9/11 and actor James Brolin was the special guest interview on the Chaz and AJ morning show on WPLR. He was promoting his new movie "The Hunting Party."
A transcript of an audio clip from the show reads: Brolin: "It's kind of a parody on how come we can't catch war criminals with all of our sophisticated stuff, you know?"
AJ: "That's something we've been talking about a lot today on the show for obvious reasons, the sixth anniversary of the September 11th attacks." Brolin: "Right, oh, yeah! Oh, Happy 9-11," said Brolin.
"We were both kind of stunned for a moment," says AJ, "it was almost like, did we just hear that?"
There was a moment of silence in the audio clip, followed by:
AJ: Well that's kind of a weird thing to say. Brolin: [laughs] I hear silence.
AJ: Yeah, well, we're right outside of New York. I mean I know people who lost family members so I don't know - you don't say, happy 9-1-1 around here. Brolin: Celebrate the day, right?
Chaz steered it back to the movie and the interview ended quickly thereafter. Almost immediately the switchboard lit up with listeners calling in livid at what they heard.
"We've had everybody from people who lost a loved one to people who worked the pile and just shock and outrage," says AJ.
AJ also says that 10 years of radio this is undoubtedly one of the biggest reactions he's ever seen. Hundreds of phone calls and e-mails have been pouring in all week long.
WPLR has not heard back from the Hollywood actor and there's been no justification, explanation or apology. Some loyal listeners now say they're planning to boycott his movies.
At the very least Brolin has now earned his place in WPLR history.
"We actually have a feature on Fridays called 'Loser of the Week'," says AJ, "and James Brolin won by a landslide this week."
News Channel 8 was unable to get in touch with James Brolin or his publicist to comment about the controversy.
That is the most outrageous statement I have ever heard!
Well, he is brain damaged. Look at what he married...
Mark
I can’t even remember what this POS looks like, please don’t put up a picture. Failed actor, worst actor ever, that comes to mind.
That is absolutely disgusting! I can’t find any words to truly describe how horrendous that comment was. Absolutely unbelievable...
Barbara water-boards” him to carry the banner. He has accepted her propaganda.
He’s married to Barbara Streisand, isn’t he? If so, that explains it all. Besides, he’s a hollywood puke. What do you expect?
This is another reason on my list why I WILL NOT SPEND ONE PENNY ON ANY MOVIES!!!!! I do not go to the theater or buy movies. The movies ands the actor are crap.(And that goes for the new music nowadays.)
Deep insight into the souls of such people, and we don’t like what we see.
Probably still upset that CBS pulled his “The Reagans”
movie after some outrage. Is Brolin happy that all those
people died? Including at least one Hollywood figure—
David Angell, writer of “Cheers” and co-creator of
“Frasier”
>>Angell was returning to Los Angeles with his wife Lynn, after attending a family wedding in Chatham, Massachusetts, when they were killed on American Airlines Flight 11 in the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks when Flight 11 was hijacked and flown into the North Tower of the World Trade Center
An example of the “compassionate liberal” mind set?
I listened. What an arrogant moron. That disgusting fake laugh is nauseating.
With few exceptions, they all think this way. He, so far, is the only "Hollywood elite" stupid enough to download that which is in his brain. I'd guess that Brolin's remarks will serve to embolden others.
Boycott this movie!
Seems like Brolin and Streisand were made for each other. Both airheads who won’t shut up.
Here, he looks as gay as his wife's son...
You can bet Brolin believes it was a day to celebrate. He very likely did.
