FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. After two previous runs for U.S. president, former Reagan diplomat Alan Keyes has announced he's again seeking the White House in the 2008 election, and he'll take part in Monday night's Republican presidential debate here.
Keyes told syndicated radio host Janet Parshall he's "unmoved" by the lack of moral courage shown by the other candidates, among whom he sees no standout who articulates the "key kernel of truth that must, with courage, be presented to our people."
He added, "The one thing I've always been called to do is to raise the standard ... of our allegiance to God and His authority that has been the foundation stone of our nation's life" and he decried the lack of "forthright, clear, and clarion declaration" from the current crop of presidential contenders.
As a result, Keyes said, "We're putting together an effort that's not going to be like anything before, because it's going to be entirely based on citizen action. We're going to be challenging people to take a pledge for America's revival," and elevate them from spectators in the political arena to participants.

These kinda comments are getting rude. Post when you have an arguement of substance. If this Keyes guy sucks soooo bad and can’t get 1% why do you even care? It can mean only a couple of things....
1) Ya’ll are just nasty rude and pissing gas on a fire
2) Yer WRONG but haven’t bothered to check the facts
3) Yer LYING and Keyes IS a serious threat to you
Either way... It’s YOU how come across as the bad apple with posts like these.
I suppose we should follow your lead by posting snarky remarks like,
"So... Yer voting for Mike Dukakis?!"
“we should probably start seeing a series of more Lincoln-Douglas (one-on-one)style real debates”
This would be great. I seem to recall Fred T saying as much a short time ago in a interview. Not likely to happen though as no one wants to be really specific on issues these days. Vague, general, please the crowd answers seem to be the order of the day in debates.
The Lincoln-Douglas debates were marathons, physically and mentally. Fred would be snoring away in his hammock long before the utterance of the last word.
And no one would show up if Allen were on stage, except a few Brigadier cross overs.
Plus getting the Federal Matching Funds and donations also..
Perhaps you are simply unaware that “Competence” was the theme of Dukakis’s campaign? My comments are germane and accurate. Thanks.
My moose eats cheese in the shower.
Lincoln, in order to invade eleven Confederate states that had quite legally seceded from the Union, also violated the Fifth Amendment by depriving slaveholders of property without due process of law via the Emancipation Proclamation (I don't favor slavery but Lincoln had no constitutional justification), initiated the bloodiest war in American history for ilegal purposes, sent Sherman to lay waste to persons and property throughout much of the South, initiated an utterly unconstitutional military draft, and an utterly unconstitutional (as SCOTUS later found) personal income tax, subjected NYC to naval bombardment during the draft riots, and smashed the presses and jailed the editors of newspapers in the North opposed to his war.
I think it’s fair to say I’ve been critical of the performance Alan’s political campaingn in Illinois, but it’s great to hear his voice. And yes, he’s second tier, and he won’t win the nomination, but his positions will be well reasoned. And I’ll disagree with reparations and gun control (testing). If the Monday debate will be on TV or radio, maybe post the link. Nothing wrong with a rational, reasoned, second tier entry.
It is moot anyway......never happen today.
Thats the way the media reported the story but I believe the truth is a bit more complex. I think she really ended up losing financial support because while working on his campaign staff she was on her own time actively promoting causes with which he fundamentally disagreed. I believe that the event which finally caused her to get kicked out of the apartment that his campaign had been paying for was when she attended a protest innauguration event. Also, I don’t believe this was as much a case of him rejecting his daughter as of him saying that she is an adult and if she is going to make choices that he fundamentally disagrees with she will have to pay her own way. Basically - he wasn’t going to pay for her to go to Brown and then become a liberal activist.
Here is what Maya Keyes had to say about what had happened during an interview with Metro Weekly - MARCEL-KEYES: “He cut off all financial support, but that’s something that I can totally understand. I am working for things that he’s directly opposed to. It doesn’t make much sense for him to be [financially] supporting someone who is working against what he believes in.”
I forgot to post the link to the interview - here it is. http://www.metroweekly.com/feature/?ak=1468
I am proud to have supported Dr. Keyes twice and to have worked with his radio program. (The earlier one.) I still miss him on TV.
Keyes will be trashed even by many conservatives because he is a man of principle who is dedicated to the Constitution and the principles of the Declaration of Independence. He brings solid, genuinely conservative ideas to the table.
” Reagan looks to rescue GOP , announces from grave that he will run for President . “
Therea re certain ideas that are important and are not being articulated. Who articulates them and helps tehm to implementation is utterly irrelevant to me. What matters is that we get our ideas on the agenda. Dr. Keyes does that very articulately.
I believe that that is why he runs. it gives him a bigger forum than his other activities. As long as he’s a Presidential candidate, he’s going to get some attantion for his ideas, if only as a curiosity.
LOL This is pure BS! Alan Keyes conservatism isn't in question. Its his political sanity that I question. Reactionary absolutism doesn't win elections. Period. Being loud and abnoxious in public also has a way of turning off the conservative folks.
Not sure if anyone has posted this link already:
Alan Keyes’ daughter:
I’m a ‘liberal queer’
Lesbian says she doesn’t mesh well with ‘conservative Republican’

Poor man. I wish him well in the debate though. He will bring issues out that we SHOULD discuss as a party.
Which he didn't. Next.
Alan, get a life, you idiot.
