Thats the way the media reported the story but I believe the truth is a bit more complex. I think she really ended up losing financial support because while working on his campaign staff she was on her own time actively promoting causes with which he fundamentally disagreed. I believe that the event which finally caused her to get kicked out of the apartment that his campaign had been paying for was when she attended a protest innauguration event. Also, I don’t believe this was as much a case of him rejecting his daughter as of him saying that she is an adult and if she is going to make choices that he fundamentally disagrees with she will have to pay her own way. Basically - he wasn’t going to pay for her to go to Brown and then become a liberal activist.

Here is what Maya Keyes had to say about what had happened during an interview with Metro Weekly - MARCEL-KEYES: “He cut off all financial support, but that’s something that I can totally understand. I am working for things that he’s directly opposed to. It doesn’t make much sense for him to be [financially] supporting someone who is working against what he believes in.”
