Keyes looks to rescue GOP, announces run for president

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – After two previous runs for U.S. president, former Reagan diplomat Alan Keyes has announced he's again seeking the White House in the 2008 election, and he'll take part in Monday night's Republican presidential debate here.

Keyes told syndicated radio host Janet Parshall he's "unmoved" by the lack of moral courage shown by the other candidates, among whom he sees no standout who articulates the "key kernel of truth that must, with courage, be presented to our people."

He added, "The one thing I've always been called to do is to raise the standard ... of our allegiance to God and His authority that has been the foundation stone of our nation's life" – and he decried the lack of "forthright, clear, and clarion declaration" from the current crop of presidential contenders.

As a result, Keyes said, "We're putting together an effort that's not going to be like anything before, because it's going to be entirely based on citizen action. We're going to be challenging people to take a pledge for America's revival," and elevate them from spectators in the political arena to participants.

Rudy Julie Annie must be jumping up and down right now. This will further divide up the "Conservative" vote between Keyes, Romney, Huckabee, Thompson and Brownback. Give the "looney bin" vote to Ron Paul and Rudy gets the nomination.

Actually. Tancredo is the only one to have missed (and intentionally) a state. You can google and the next date isn’t til October. Still time even for Newt to jump in.

= )

I hope he is excluded and ignored from all GOP presidential events.

He will participate in Monday night's GOP Presidential debate.

Still time even for Newt to jump in.

See my post #181 and include Hunter in the pack of Conservative votes that will be divided up.

What the heck, I'll run for President. Anyone else interested?
It's a free-for-all let's all run for President.

That Senate election was filled with irregularities, candidate withdrawals, carpetbagging, etc., etc., etc. He should have NEVER gotten into that race.

See Post # 187. I don't think he can win UNLESS the Dems nominate Hillary and don't even give Obama the VEEP spot, then Keyes might pull a lot of angry black votes from the Dem ticket if he is on the GOP ticket.

That’s nonsense. Absolute nonsense.
Keyes would lose the moderate white vote.
And Hillary does better among blacks than Obama.

And finally, the black vote isn’t about race, it’s about political party.

Even so, that’s pathetic. Considering the state of the party in IL, elections will be like that for a while.

OK guys.. Percents are all well and good. But actual vote counts represent people who desired to vote.

The ‘moderates’ almost always vote Dem, so it won’t matter.

Indeed, and I’m rather certain the universe of people in Illinois who turned out to vote for Keyes in 2004 but wouldn’t have voted for George W. Bush is slightly smaller than a few dozen. Presidential elections always have higher turn-outs than off-years; Alan Keyes was not the big draw on the ticket.

It depends on how you define “moderate.”
The GOP owns the average middle-class white vote.
And that is what Keyes would DESTROY.

Keyes would do conservatives one favor, though:
He would finally displace poor Barry Goldwater for the worst popular vote election defeat in history.

“Keyes told syndicated radio host Janet Parshall he’s “unmoved” by the lack of moral courage shown by the other candidates, among whom he sees no standout who articulates the “key kernel of truth that must, with courage, be presented to our people.”’

Guess Keyes never heard of Duncan Hunter:

Year after year, Duncan Hunter has tried to get legislation passed with the bill he authored, the personhood-at-conception bill that has over 100 co-sponsors, which would define personhood at the moment of conception, so, it would allow us to have a reversal of the effects of Roe v. Wade without a constitutional amendment.

And Duncan Hunter attended the pro-life march in D.C.

Also, Duncan Hunter received and A+ rating from the NRA, has the best credentials for fighting the WOT, understands that Red China is becoming he superpower because of the trade imbalance, building their military with American dollars, took on the ACLU in fighting for the Mt. Soledad cross to stay, and much more - WHAT does Mr. Keyes want?

Keyes has always been one of my heroes, but he REALLY disappoints me this time.
