Grettings All a quick Friday Flyby for your viewing enjoyment. It's my weekend for nights, booo hisss, and I had e-mailed me the Flyby at work but the e-mail is out in the ether somewhere. Any ways a few pics of the Polikarpov I-15/153 Seagul bi-plane fighter of Pre WW-II and early WW-II useage.
The Seagull would have been a contemporary of the Gloster Gladiator and Fiat CR-42 bi-plane fighters. The examples posted here tonight are a result of the efforts of the New Zealand aviation enthusiast Sir Tim Wallis. Sir Wallis headed up an effort in the early 1990s to bring 3 I-153 and 6 I-16s to New Zealand where they were restored to airworthy condition. The I-16s were flying in 1999, more on them guys tomorrow nite, and the I-153 were up and flying in 2000. Both types made thier public denut at the Warplanes over Wanaka airshow, hubba hubba!!! Anyways on with the pics.
First an almost head on pic
The I-15 version in flight.
Another inflite shot of the Seagull
A green I-153 tries to blend into the trees:-)
Up, up and away from the camera ship.
And to close out tonites Flyby a teaser pic for tomorrows Sortie.
Replies may be few tonite as I have a busy nite at work but we will be back with the Saturday Sortie tomorrow nite. Y'all have a great weekend.
Regards

Aloha Alpha6!
Do you believe in coincidences?
On the 11th, my granddaughter grabbed a book from the shelf.....looked through the pictures.....and said "Read me....read me...."
The pic was the Polikarpov I-16.
I can't think of anything worse than flying without a canopy at 450 KPH.

Half a day late, but thanks, alfa, for the Friday Flyby of the Polikarpov I-15/153 Seagul bi-planes....very interesting and wide open to the elements. The green one blends in quite nicely with the trees.
