DETROIT -- An elderly man and a woman were mauled to death by pit bulls in Iosco Township, Mich., on Thursday afternoon, police said.

Michigan State Police were called to a farm and found a 90-year-old man mauled to death by dogs.

The Iosco Sheriff’s Department said the man’s 70-year-old son went to check on his father, who was visiting the property, and found him dead in the yard.

Police said there were still pit bulls in the yard when the son arrived.

Upon further investigation, MSP found dogs had also fatally mauled a 56-year-old woman who was jogging, just west of the property.

Investigators confiscated 10 pit bulls from a nearby residence.

MSP said there are still some dangerous dogs at large in the area.

The deaths are still under investigation by MSP.

"There are a lot of other kinds of dogs that don’t do such things. Why not have those instead? What is the lure of a dog that kills innocent people?"

'Cause you get more "ree-spek'" when you got a pit bull....

Isn't it odd. No one has said a word about how these dogs were originally misidentified and the media's rush to categorize them as pit bulls.

Crickets on that clarification.

Any breed of dog that has a tendency to turn even on its own owners like pits do, is not safe to have around.

What a crock of pure unadulterated BS.

If my neighbor brought one home, it’d be gone in a week.

And if you "made it gone" in my state you'd be charged with a felony and rightly so.

Someone who has 10 pitbulls is up to no good.

That's not always true either. I've had 12 at once; each of them housed in their own kennel; each of them properly taken care of; each of them completing obedience training. Nine of them were rescues. All of them were placed in wonderful homes and are doing well save one who passed away from complications that arose from her being beaten, starved, fought, etc.

Should you be worried? I don't know. It sounds like the owner isn't very responsible or educated as anyone owning multiple pit bulls should know they are often naturally animal aggressive; however, I will emphasize that animal aggression and human aggression are two different things entirely.

I saw the fellow who trains our dogs at Pets Smart the other day. He had a pit bull with him that he was training. I asked him what he thought of pit bulls and he said he had trained several and that they were “crazy and nothing more than four legged land sharks”.

He trained them...
but said they were
"crazy and nothing more than four legged land sharks”

How then did he manage to train them? Sorry, this doesn't pass the sniff test.
Either the "trainer" is a complete idiot
or you're taking something he said out of context.

He said what he said. He's a pretty laid back guy and was just kind of being matter of fact. The pit bull he had with him was pretty small. Young and kind of cute. It was doing exactly what he told it to and was much better behaved than most of the other dogs around. There were a couple of huge Great Danes there. Both my wife and I know dogs pretty well and both of us looked at those great danes and immediately told our child to keep away from them. Their eyes and body posture just did not look right. Right after we said that the great danes attacked another large dog that was being very sweet and passive. It happened fast and there was a bit of blood on the floor. The owners of the danes were idiots. They were not paying attention and after the attack didn't seem to care about what happened.

I've never been around Pit Bulls so I have nothing against them. I just asked my better half about this trainer and she said he owns a Pitt Bull. Maybe he was kidding but I didn't think so at the time.

My experience has been that two or more dogs of just about any breed can be dangerous if they are protecting their territory together.

Growing up back in Minnesota you could hunt for “feral” dogs and cats (although we never did). I heard many of the dogs still had collars on them - if they were pets out for a night with the gang or long-lost pets I don’t know. They would run the deer pretty hard.

Best of luck to you if and when you do get a pit bull pup. I have owned a few pit bulls since 1997. And it is very very hard to own this breed and defend your dog day after day. But it’s well worth it.
