Bill Belichick was hit with a $500,000 fine Thursday night -- the maximum allowable by NFL by-laws -- for violating the league's policy on videotaping the Jets defensive signs Sunday. In addition, Roger Goodell notified the Patriots that they would forfeit a 2008 first-round draft choice if they reach the playoffs, or second- and third-round picks if they do not qualify for the playoffs. The club was also fined $250,000.
LOL...okaaaaay...this should help...
NFL rules state “no video recording devices of any kind are permitted to be in use in the coaches’ booth, on the field, or in the locker room during the game” and that all video or coaching purposes must be shot from locations “enclosed on all sides with a roof overhead.”
That was re-emphasized in a memo sent Sept. 6 to NFL head coaches and general managers. In it, Ray Anderson, the league’s executive vice president of football operations, wrote: “Videotaping of any type, including but not limited to taping of an opponent’s offensive or defensive signals, is prohibited on the sidelines, in the coaches’ booth, in the locker room, or at any other locations accessible to club staff members during the game.”
Memo sent out on Sept 6...guy’s got alot of nerve pulling this when he knows the commish is already pissed with Vick and Pacman
stick it to him
I don’t care abou any memo. This is worse than banning tag on playgrounds. It’s absurd. If they don’t want signals stolen don’t use them.
And your team will still suck...
Now all the teams will be watched carefully. When the Patriots still kick the a** of these how bad will they look. Patriots could beat them without the signals. You could give a lot of teams the entire playbook for the game and they would still lose. Especially the Jets.
Bernie was done. He didn’t have an arm and he lacked mobility. BB was right to bench him although he could have done it better.
Modell was the real problem for that team.
You know, The Beatles are a pretty good band.
Now, what does the above sentence have to do with your comment? Both are completely friggin’ irrelevant.
Brady played at a very good Michigan program and came into the league willing to work hard. He reads defenses and simply doesn’t make a lot of stupid plays. How many times does he get sacked, throw a bunch of picks or make bad decisions?
He shouldn’t have apologized yesterday; sign of weakness.
Pencilneck lawyers like Goodell feel braver when they see the strongman tremble. imo
sorry but the end doesn’t justify the means
Explain this....the Jets knew something was up and didn’t change signals? The Pats never got to look at the tape so how did this help them? What did the video guy have to do with Randy Moss destroying the Jets that day?
The conduct is unacceptable but let’s not get caught up in the moment and ignore reality.
ESPN’s lips have been affixed to the Patriots’ ass for the past decade. Are you seriously going to cite their analysts’ support of Belicheat and the Patriots organization as proof that we’re all overreacting? Come on.
ESPN is to the Patriots (and northeast teams in general) as the MSM is to the Democrat Party.
Geez...I guess the videotaping of signals didn’t work so well against the Colts last year, did it?
I find this comical...I used to be a Skins fan back in the days of Mr. Paranoid and Dirty Tricks himself, George Allen. This is nothing new.
Furthermore...Mr. Mangini became a head coach on the basis of his performance as an assistant coach...right? Or not? Golly jeepers, do you think perhaps Mangini er...ahem...KNEW of this type of activity and took advantage of it as an assistant coach? I find the contemplation of THAT particularly ironic...:)
Belichick is some kind of evil genius, but not smart enough to avoid getting caught. He can cheat his way to three Superbowls, take a sixth round pick like Tom Brady and somehow implant him with superhuman quarterback abilities and so on, but cannot avoid illegal camera detection.
This kind of reminds me of Bush Derangement Syndrome. Bush and his Cronies (particularly Rove) are some kind of evil geniuses, manipulating everyone into entering an unwarranted and illegal war, but they couldn’t go out in the Iraqi desert and plant some chemical weapons to be found to be able to justify it.
What I see here is “Belichick Derangement Syndrome”!
Hes a cheater, an astrack has to be put next to every pats superbowl just like it has to be for the baseball player, and of course he doesnt have to see the qb for quite a while, he made sure of that
Yeah right.
The analysts fluffed for McNabb, Vick, Culpepper and McNair thus proving Rush as correct. They love Manning and anyone else that is hot.
Your Fins suck. Maybe if they drafted well or could hold on to a coach then ESPN would show your team love too.
I'm no fan of the Patriots, but this is kinda ridiculous. What's the point of having rules against "spying" on coaches who send signals to their players in plain view of 80,000+ spectators at the game?
Cheating? in professional sports?
Say it isn’t so!
What’s ridiculous about the whole thing is that if this so-called “cheating” has been going on as long as it has been alleged by some people, then New York Jets head coach Eric Mangini would have been involved in it when he was an assistant coach for the Patriots!
Oh bullcrap, he was a late pick project.
He couldn’t even beat out bledsoe for his position but comes in when Bledsoe gets injured and just takes it to a new level?
How is he supposed to make bad decisions when he knows what the other team is doing? He doesn’t read defenses he didn’t need to.
