Miami-Dade police named 30-year-old Kevin Wehner as their suspect in the shooting of four officers

Two Miami-Dade police officers have been injured in a so-called Tactical Operation gone bad in Cutler Bay.
This is currently a developing story that began at SW 281st Street and 143rd Court in Cutler Bay where the two officers were possibly shot, reportedly with an assault rifle.
Other officers may have also been hurt but only with minor injuries.
At least one officer has been transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital.
After the shooting, one suspect barricaded himself inside a building at 280th Street and Southwest 143RD Court.
The other suspect took off in a White Honda Accord and began driving on the Turnpike and led police on a short chase before he bailed out at 222nd Street and SW 110th Avenue.
That suspect, described as a chubby white man with long black hair remains on the loose.
Broward County police agencies have been alerted to the shooting of the Miami-Dade Officers.

Also- there have been a lot of burglaries in the area recently...apparently that’s what the team was doing..
The mayor just reporting “at least 4 officers”...
Also- reporting one of the officers has died.

That's the mayor, Carlos Alvarez. He was born in Cuba - came over as a kid.
Yeah....the latest update was in spanish and WIOD went back to Rush.....I never expected an officer to die. SOB.

We can only hope that he tries to escape when he is finally apprehended...........or that it appears so........
Oh no. My daughter is a police officer (in Colorado) and she says that these random traffic violation stops are one of the most dangerous situations. The violator often believes that the police have stopped him because they know something about him (which they don’t) for some other crime. All the while, it was a routine traffic violation. But the guy in the car comes out shooting.
A policeman I spoke with last week here in St A told me the same thing.

Agree. A year or two ago we had a huge stakeout here in Central Florida- Lake County- on a man who had shot and killed an officer and his K9. When they found him- he was hiding in the woods- still armed. He started to raise his arm- with gun- and was met with a volley of over 140 rounds from police..
News reports that a SWAT is surrounding the perp’s house

Drugs..gangs..officers never know what they’ll come across next.
Showing now they’re focusing on a particular house in the area..
