FRED'S FLOP
The New York Post ^ | Sept 13,2007 | George F. Will

Thompson, contrary to his current memories, was deeply involved in expanding government restrictions on political speech generally and the ban on issue ads specifically. Yet he told Ingraham "I voted for all of it," meaning McCain-Feingold, but said "I don't support that" provision of it.

Oh? Why, then, did he file his own brief urging the Supreme Court to uphold McCain-Feingold, stressing Congress' especially "compelling interest" in squelching issue ads that "influence" elections?

Most lamely, Thompson takes credit for McCain-Feingold doubling the amount of "hard money" an individual can give to a candidate, which he says reduces the advantages of incumbency. But that is absurd: Most hard money flows to incumbe

I am sorry, I do not see the big deal here on Campaign Finance reform. The Rudy people are making a big deal out of this. It one small aspect of a much larger picture. It is a concern but get real here. Fred has the best ability to beat Hillary. End of story.

I don’t understand comparing FT to Reagan. Reagan was an actor, true, but he was a governor and had proven ability. Even the liberal CA populace recognized his superiority. FT has even less experience than HC. One senate term wasn’t it? We must have genuine leadership in these times for the WH. The best of the lot is Duncan, unfortunately he is going nowhere. But FT is not the answer IMO.

I liked Thompson, and I don't think I'm alone in that. His manner is most refreshing.

Agreed. But I notice something about Fred that I associate with my support for Bush.

When Fred stubs his toe, such as with the "Sunni Smoking" gaffe, I cringe. Just like when Bush is bumbling some word, but I know what he's trying to say, you're straining for him to make it trhough okay!

Fred's like that for me. I want the thought of him to succeed, and am willing to let the bumbling human that actually is him maybe stumble to 90% of what I expect.

Meanwhile, a Duncan Hunter is more polished, on things I don't believe and he's so sure of himself that I inherently know he can't be trusted with complete control. This "shut down the border and then figure out what's next" is music to most freeper's ears, but to me it indicates a complete lack of management concepts.

Already being done—Talk radio and internet. I find it fascinating that liberal talk shows don’t last more than a year; and the MSM (newspapers and TV) are in trouble. This should mean that even Demrat voters aren’t tuning in. If they aren’t, then where do they pick up the Demrat talking points?

MSM still controls the big majority of the people's mind .Witness elections in 2006 and the fact Hilary/Bubba aren't in jail
They had enough corruption to sink ten administrations

Libs know how to use the internet too--MOVEON.ORG etc

Conservative Talk radio preaches to the choir

That is a bold face lie. Get your facts straight.

Furthermore he never personally spoke before any anti abortion rally while he was pres.

No YOU get YOUR facts straight. I meant what I wrote. Both times he spoke via telephone from the White House. I remember because there was a big stink about at the time.

As to the 1967 Therapeutic Abortion Act, Thank you for proving me correct. Therapeutic or not it was California's first Abortion law. As I posted, Reagan signed Cali's the FIRST Abortion law.

Thanks for playing...

We're not done playing, bucko.

>>>>>No YOU get YOUR facts straight. I meant what I wrote. Both times he spoke via telephone from the White House. I remember because there was a big stink about at the time.

I've got my facts straight. Reagan was the first POTUS to speak at the March For Life held on the anniversary of Roe v Wade`sx passage. Reagan made that an annual event throughout his Presidency, not just twice as you posted. I gave you the links to three such speeches. So stop lying.

>>>>>As to the 1967 Therapeutic Abortion Act, Thank you for proving me correct.

Hogwash! What you attempted to do was run down Reagan by calling him a flip-flopper on the abortion issue. Reagan didn't employ political expediency to attain his goals. Wasn't necessary. Leadership was Reagan`s tool of choice and that was the key to his success.

While the deficit did rise under Reagan, that was part of the price the American people were willing to pay in order to have Reagan lead us to victory in the Cold War. And that is exactly what transpired.

In addition, no POTUS can predict with certainty how any appointment to the SCOTUS will turn out after 10-20 years on the high court. Reagan promised to appoint the first woman to the SCOTUS and Sandra Day O'Conner was the conscientious choice. Anthony Kennedy was an excellent choice. He receieved the endorsement of America's major right to life organizations. After Robert Bork was shot down by Senator`s Arlen Spector (R) and fat Ted Kennedy (D), and after Ginsberg was trashed for his recent pot smoking, Anthony Kennedy was viewed as a solid compromise choice.

By appointing J. William Rehnquist to be CJ and Scalia as associate justice, Reagan gave conservatives hope of overturning Roe v Wade. If Bork had been approved, good chance Roe v Wade would be an historical footnote by now.

Yo uncbob—Sorry, I’ve been away for a week. Keep the faith. Truth always wins out in the end. To be sure, I have my pessimistic days too. But our side will prevail in the end.
