The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Wednesday shows that Fred Thompson on top once again in the race for the Republican Presidential Nomination, Thompson is now the top choice for 28% of Likely Republican Primary Voters matching his highest level of support recorded to date. The question at the moment is how long the bounce from his official entry into the race will last. Rudy Giuliani, who has been the frontrunner for most of the year, is eight points behind Thompson with support from 20%. That figure reflects the lowest level of support recorded all year for the New Yorker. Data released yesterday shows that Republicans consider Giuliani the most electable candidate from their party.
Arizona Senator John McCain earns 12% of the vote and has moved a point ahead of former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney at 11%. While the one-point difference is statistically insignificant, this is the first time in months that McCain has moved ahead of Romney by any margin. Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee remains atop the second tier at 6% (see recent daily numbers).
There is little change in the race for the Democratic Presidential Nomination. New York Senator Hillary Clinton attracts 42% of the vote from Likely Democratic Primary Voters. Barack Obama is the top choice for 22% while John Edwards attracts 18% (see recent daily numbers). New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson is a distant fourth at 3%

I actually like Rudy at the personal level. He's a very likable guy, but then so is Bill Clinton and I don't completely agree with the politics of either.

I’ll vote my conscience, and my conscience tells me that the life of unborn children, small government and preservation/expansion of second amendment rights are the views I need to vote for. In the general election I’ll vote for the candidate that shares these views. Party affiliation is meaningless when the only difference between the candidates from each party differ only on how many more months should troops stay in Iraq after the government is stable.
I would support Rudy or Romney if they won the nomination. Of the two, Rudy would be my choice because I think he is more likely to support and conduct the war aggressively. When asked about it, he doesn’t couch is words or try to get along, he just says what needs to be said.
I disagree with him in many things, but he has tailored his other positions to fit as well - unlike some I don’t necessarily hold some of his positions against him when he was mayor of NY. That said, he’d have to basically say he would put Ted Olsen in charge of naming the judges for me to like him.
I support Fred because I think he is one of the few people who can articulate a strong conservative position (Federalism, pro-growth economics, and the war) in a way that gets OVER AND PAST a opposition media, and in a way that gets people to support those positions.
Is it pro abortion, anti gun, illegal immigration isn't a crime stand that makes you feel that way?

I’ve said it many times, I’ll vote for the republican nominee. All these candidates do serve a good purpose, in case a scandal or health issue suddenly knocks out a front runner. At the moment I see Thompson getting the nomination, with Giuliani fading. Maybe McCain will pick up a bit? I think Romney is not all that bad, but my gut tells me he isn’t selling.
Why is Rudy more appealing overall?

Because whether we like it or not, McCain was right about the Iraq war policy.

I would have to differ with you on this point. Rudi and the MSM, even conservative slanted media have pretty much done all they can to make us believe he is the shoe in for the Republicrat nomination.
He and the rest of the candidates wasted time and money declaring and campaigning so early.
Fred is doing what was considered normal last election, not sure why that is lazy, he’s just not stupid enough to waste millions of other people’s dollars. He got himself in 2nd place without spending any money, I’d call that smart.
I’d like to see a president with veto power in the white house who isn’t going to waste money on things unnecessary simply because the opposition party did. I want someone who will resist the tempation to waste money because it’s easy to spend other people’s money.
I fear the left of center stances Rudy has taken on many important issues and worry that if he should win he will rip the party apart. If people think Bush has PO’d the base on some of his stands wait until you have a Pres. Rudy. Like they say, get the popcorn and read the threats.
I support Fred Thompson, but let me tell you that I would crawl over broken glass to vote for a dead dog lying in the middle of the street if he gets the Republican nomination.
I agree with you. The “Aw shucks” might get him the nomination but it won’t work against the machine.
My guess is that he doesn't look so feeble when compared to Ron Paul.
On the other topic, I will hold my nose and vote for anyone opposing the Hildebeast but I'm tired of holding my nose. Fred is the only candidate which people can vote for and not just against the other side. We don't have to go out and "find" some gravitas. Fred's picture is next to the definition in the dictionary.

I’ll answer for myself. No... I will not vote for Rudy Giuliani under any circumstances. I believe electing a liberal Democrat will be horrible for the country. However, electing a liberal Republican is horrible for the country and destroys any chance of a Conservative agenda having success with either party.
I believe Rudy has a much wide awake appeal over all
