I would like to comment on the comment that presidential candidate Sen. Barack Obama isn't black enough ("Questioning Obama's blackness is petty," Dispatch Forum column, Sept. 1).
I think that his disconnect with the descendants of slaves comes from his desire to show his white supporters how white he can be.
When he did his little southern black accent down in Alabama, by which I was personally offended, he was showing his white supporters that he knows how to play the game. I did, however, enjoy his little joke on "colored-people's time." He says he's against the war but then says he would take the war into Pakistan.
He's showing the white boys he's ready to kick just as much butt as they are. He holds off his no vote on funding the war until the last minute to show white people how politically savvy he can be, but he's showing me he wants to be another tricky white boy like the one we have in there now.
I don't like people trying to play over my head. That's how we got played into Iraq. But if you ask him about reparations for 400 years of free labor, he doesn't understand why we think that we have that coming. He's too young to have experienced Jim Crow and can't appreciate what we went through to get him where he is today.
White people weren't always as nice to us as they are being to him right now. Only one candidate, Dennis Kucinich, has said that he is willing to work to make the wrong that was done to black America right, and I don't have to worry about him trying to play me.

Perhaps because he isn’t a descendent of slaves or of those who bought into WEB Debois’ anger, he has a different outlook on the world?

Well, this is different. I’ve never been pandered to. The approach he takes should be interesting. Maybe he will vow to end affirmative action.
But he's so *clean* and *articulate*! And no,I don't believe for a minute that he's "smelly" in the morning.

That is exactly why he is not "Black Enough"!
Through his father he could be descended from people who sold their fellow Africans to slavetraders; through his mother he is no doubt related to, and possibly descended from, white American slaveowners. But he would stand to receive payments if reparations ever became a reality.

Does this mean that he is not crafty enough for Asian voters like Ms. Clinton?
I’ll give this to the author Edmund Smith of Colombus [Oh.] and that he displays admirable brevity and cogency. I may not share his politics, but I wouldn’t mind sharing with him a beer or two.
You are so right and if we had any news people in this country he would be asked about reparations everyday . He would either endorse them and show he is not fit to lead us as one nation , or set the record straight once and for all that thinking people , in a free country , of any color do not want to extort some phony claim for money from their neighbors .
