Just when you thought it couldn't get any better when the FBI raided the Attorney General's Office a few years back...

I found out on Sunday, but couldn’t confirm beyond rumor.
Criminal charges include Fraud and Obstruction.
Not bad for a sleepy little island..
Clearly, this is the unintended result of the recent increase in minimum wage for American Samoa.
He should thank Speaker Pelosi! /sarcasm

Charges outlined in case against American Samoas Lt Governor
Posted at 02:14 on 11 September, 2007 UTC
Details of the charges being faced by American Samoas Lieutenant Governor, Ipulasi Aitofele Sunia, have been revealed at a federal court in Washington.
It has also become clear that another senior figure, Senator Tulifua Lam Yuen, has handed himself in in Los Angeles.
In Pago Pago, Monica Miller has the details:
The six count indictment was unsealed today in the Washington Federal District court in the District of Colombia and aside from Lieutenant Governor, Ipulasi Aitofele Sunia, Senator Tulifua Lam Yuen is also charged in teh same indictment and they are facing six charges. These include conspiracy, fraud, bribery concerning programmes receiving federal funds and obstruction of an agency and there is also a charge of bribery.
The charges relate to an investigation into the allocation of contracts for furniture for the American Samoan Department of Education

Wasn't there an American Somian sitting in on the hearings today? iirc, a FReeper commented that there was one. Sitting behind one of the dim senators.
What a weird coincidence. One way or the other.
