I grew up in Brooklyn and remember those towers being built. I worked on Wall Street when I was in college and used the subway station there on a regular basis........I won't get into the pubs I frequented, though.
I have been unable to bring myself to cross the Verazano since.
I completely understand. For several years I rode the PATH train into WTC to work. Last time I worked in Manhattan was mid-80s. Still have not been to Ground Zero, I know I cannot handle it. Just refuse to cry in public.
It was interesting to see the progress floor by floor. We know the engineer who was in charge of the foundation. As the building grew higher he used to joke that he hoped the foundation would hold! I've never asked him how he felt on that terrible day.
I used to have my breath taken away whenever we went into the city by the Holland tunnel. You come out and there they were! The first time we went in the city after they were gone, I couldn't do anything but have tears. I just couldn't look up. I understand how you feel about the bridge.
my sister-in-law’s father is a retired iron worker, he helped build the towers. But, he and his wife, and my SIL are liberals, anti-Bush, anti-war...and they lost 2 relatives. I mentioned one in a previous post, he worked for Cantor Fitzgerald and left 5 children. Don’t know what it would take to convince them that fighting these terrorists, killing them, is what we must do..losing relatives wasn’t enough?!
