Ambassador Crocker: Iran the Winner if US Abandons Iraq

US Ambassador Ryan Crocker warned overnight Iran "would be a winner" if the United States abandons Iraq and allows the Islamic republic to consolidate its influence. In testimony to the US Congress, Mr Crocker raised the specter of an Iranian intervention if the United States withdraws and Iraq plunges into civil war.

Honestly, we should have seen this coming. The truth is that it will be nearly impossible to forestall and Iranian takeover of at least half of Iraq unless we keep troops there indefinitely. Say what you will of Sadaam, but he kept a lid on things and what too incompetent to know that his scientists were making zero progress on nukes.
