JENA, La. - Two civil rights leaders urged Jena residents to demand equal justice, and one called for an investigation of the district attorney who is prosecuting six black teenagers charged with serious crimes in the beating of a white classmate.
The Revs. Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton both said Sunday they would join thousands of people expected in Jena on Sept. 20 to protest the teens' treatment. That is the day that one of the six, Mychal Bell, is to be sentenced on an aggravated second-degree battery conviction. Bell faces up to 15 years in prison.
"After that, if we need to, we'll go to Baton Rouge and see the governor and the Legislature," Sharpton said Sunday by phone from New York.
The "Jena Six" case drew protests after five of the six teens were originally charged with attempted second-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder, carrying sentences of up to 80 years in prison. The sixth was charged in juvenile court.

Hate crime?
The two biggest racists in the country.
"Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." - Manuel II Palelologus
It was a safe bet.
Wonder how they feel about certain government programs that favor one race over another (affirmative action, minority set asides, minority only scholarships, etc.)???
Am I supposed to get excited about this?
People who beat other people going to jail for committing a crime.
Geraldo was giving Sharptongue’s cause some attention over the weekend on Fox News Channel.
SHut Up Sharpton’s Hate.
SHUSH is the short way to say that.
Should they get a pass for beating somebody up? This country just gets more and more ridiculous with every day. Sharpton is no “civil rights leader”, and he should just shut up.
Did this noxious person Sharpton ever pay the money he owes for defaming the prosecutor in Dutchess County, New York?
No hate crime here folks, now move along, just move along.
I’m so sick and tired of this crap. “Civil rights leaders” will always find some justification for a blacks attacking whites. How many times do we have to see it to know that it’s true?
Six on one? They beat the f**k out of a white kid and now the Revs want the savages cut a break? Whay do these two race pimps get any press at all?
“Whay do these two race pimps get any press at all?”
I suspect the liberals in media would like nothing more than to see some Louisiana “rednecks” given the Duke treatment x 10.
The right reverends may not draw quite the crowd in Jena that they are accustomed to to drawing ... the blacks down there will have to remain long after Al and Jesse leave. This kind of behavior won’t be taken very lightly in that neck o’ the woods. I’m very curious to see the results.
That's kind of a personal thing for Sharpton to be asking for, isn't it?
You suck AL.
“After a black student sat under a tree on the school campus where white students traditionally congregated, three nooses were hung in the tree.”
That’s kind of the watered-down version. That makes it sound as though he was just sitting there minding his own business and the mean old white kids weren’t going to have it.
When I was in school (we played Jena in football) some black kids hung out by the gym entrance. Now, we got along great at my school but I would not have considered planting myself in front of the gym at break and tried to take over their little “click” location. That’s where that click hung out and everybody respected it. Not to do so would likely have caused problems. There were no problems
The Skoal dippers sat on a bench under a tree that EVERYBODY called the “Skoal Bench”. Nobody but that click hung out there. Everybody respected that. I can see a similar response if some trouble-maker decided he was going to intrude on that click just to get a rise out of them.
The guy was begging for a reason to fight someone and the white kids did the wrong thing with the nooses and fell right into it.
