Mrs. Trooprally called me this evening to tell me that she and her husband, as well as Concretebob, saw damage along almost the entire length of the Vietnam Memorial Wall. They found this damage this morning, when they walked through the area before participating in the September 11th Freedom Walk.
Concretebob was told by a National Park Service employee that the damage was done on Friday night. There was no police report taken or written about the vandalism, apparently. And the damage was still very much there today.
Here are a few of the photos that Mrs. Trooprally took this morning...
This first one is not so noticeable, but as they walked into the center, it got worse.
It looks like the person who did this walked along The Wall with some type of container, perhaps hidden at their side so that they could squirt the oily substance without being caught in the act.
The names along the lower part of The Wall appear to have taken the brunt of the damage.
Because of the reflective nature of The Wall, Mrs. Trooprally had a tough time capturing the extent of the damage. Mr. Trooprally said that the oily substance has discolored the shiny stone, but that it has been absorbed into the more porous area where the names are etched into The Wall.
Thanks for your reply to BobJ.
I tried also to make my thoughts clear on his comments.
Thank you too! BOOB J is funny!
It is very gratifying that only one person thinks the way you do!
You would have been more stupid than smart to spray anything on the wall.
Observers would have jumped on you as well as the guards. How would anyone “even smartest man in the world, you,” know that you were not causing the damage, or possibly making it worse?
I think I might like to see you try and laugh at the consequences.
Reading comprehension isn't your strength, is it Bob?
It was discovered Sunday morning (that is yesterday, for you, Bob), when several Freepers walked the length of The Wall on their way to the Freedom Walk, which, BTW, lasted most of the day.
I was at work from 8am until 8pm and was made aware of the damage at 8pm, via a phone call from Mrs. Trooprally. Upon arriving at home, I set about posting this thread. Then I retired for the night.
First thing this morning, I drove into the city to document the damage (that the MSM won't report), and the rest is, as they say, a bug in your craw.
Tiggles, you know what else might work on that stain?
Scrubbing Boobles!
I have sent the usual email notes and this time added my Representative since he is a Vietnam Vet. I have calls in progress to the American Legion and the VFW.
I wonder what action BOOB J has taken?
Maybe he is down there cleaning and getting arrested right now??? How about it BOOB J
I think I will contact the White House too.
You have honored those who gave all.
Your devotion is an inspiration.
Thanks.
Thanks for the update. Hope the defacers are dealt with properly.
Said he was leaving but just couldn’t help himself!
Maybe the POLICE are just too busy arresting Cindy Sheehan to have time to check on this today!
Thanks for telling us all about this. It makes me so mad to think this can happen unobserved (possibly)
I have made a lot of calls but can not think of anything else to do...
