Mrs. Trooprally called me this evening to tell me that she and her husband, as well as Concretebob, saw damage along almost the entire length of the Vietnam Memorial Wall. They found this damage this morning, when they walked through the area before participating in the September 11th Freedom Walk.
Concretebob was told by a National Park Service employee that the damage was done on Friday night. There was no police report taken or written about the vandalism, apparently. And the damage was still very much there today.
Here are a few of the photos that Mrs. Trooprally took this morning...
This first one is not so noticeable, but as they walked into the center, it got worse.
It looks like the person who did this walked along The Wall with some type of container, perhaps hidden at their side so that they could squirt the oily substance without being caught in the act.
The names along the lower part of The Wall appear to have taken the brunt of the damage.
Because of the reflective nature of The Wall, Mrs. Trooprally had a tough time capturing the extent of the damage. Mr. Trooprally said that the oily substance has discolored the shiny stone, but that it has been absorbed into the more porous area where the names are etched into The Wall.
It should have been cleaned up the same day.
Yes, and it’s up to us to take our country back. Hard choices but necessary ones...
That looks like tire dressing, which will wear or wash off.
I’ve sent the link to this post to Brit Hume with the question ‘what’s being done?’
I remember the SDS from when I was in high school (late 60’s) There must be some real aged hippies out there. Heck they are probably teaching the new batch.
We’re supposed to entrust our healthcare and our retirement to them, and the education of our children?
Better to get a rope for most of them.
Scumbag communists.
And spending Soros' cash...
Well done, with the general on the hill tomorrow, I am not sure if they will get to this but at least they are aware of what happen now.
WHY are there no security cameras to inhibit, or at least prevent the depraved amoral scumbags of our society from pulling this crap?
The U.S. Park Police are as useful as tits on a boar hog.
Do we have a follow-up report? Honest question, not rhetorical; the posts are fast and furious, so I might have missed one.
At most, we know that whatever it is and however it got there, it's still there.Meanwhile, we have 120+ posts about who did it, why, and what should be done to them. All based on sheer speculation. Even your question -- by using the word "desecrate" assumes a motive that it is not at all clear.
A couple of Vets? A couple million, maybe, of us, who lived, and revere the Wall. Just let me know, I'll leave the Keys in the dead of Winter to confront those (deleted).
Why would they care? they have secure federal jobs.
As if the government doesn't already have enough cushy sinecures with full health and pension already. Why not organize a volunteer team of veterans to guard these sites and solicit donations for them?
As you look at the pictures above, motive aside, do you deny the monument was desecrated?
As to using the word desecration, anyone who has been to The Wall, knows the solemnity that permeates that site. People talk in hushed tones, like it is sacred ground. That was not an accident.
I just had to pray to God to forgive me my first reaction to this travesty! :*( May He forgive those who committed this crime, but I don’t know if *I* can. :*(
God bless our troops and our veterans, always.
Acid? Lye?
I suspect my priest will give me a couple Hail Mary’s and Our Fathers when I speak to him onSaturday. It is always the visuals that get me in trouble.
They would probably be able to get a sample of the granite from a tombstone company to ‘practice’ on, providing they can determine what kind of oil (cooking? it looks clear to me from the pics) was used, and what might remove it from the engraved portion of the granite, if that is even possible.
Unfortunately, I think the whole wall panels would have to be replaced. :*(
