We relax by taking our dog to the local dog park and chat with others who bring their dogs. Today, a man sat across from us and began his tirade about the government's conspiracy in blowing up the World Trade Center.
I've heard this before so just nodded and let him continue. His history lesson finally caused me to jump in. He believes that Iran is really our friend and that George Bush is only attempting to gain an excuse to use a nuke.
I then interjected that the current leader of Iran is a believer of the 12th Iman, he didn't have a clue. When I tried to explain his belief of the end of the world, he stated that Iran is our friend and Bush is the believer of Ammagedon.
When I suggested he read "The Looming Tower", and that it just received the Pulitzer, he referred me to the BBC.
The conversation was not heated until I mentioned Clinton's disregard for people, namely women. He jumped up, spit out "who cares, Bush wants to murder people throughout the world", ran out of the park, leaving his wife and his dog.
My friend was extremely upset. He said that my citing sources intiminated the guy. And, that I should refrain from expressing my strong opinions.
I would like to hear from others as to how you would handle a situation like this.
Please do!

A guy like that is NOT your friend. My friend and I are on opposite sides of the spectrum ... we have a rule that we don't talk about politics unless it's a debate with sources. Seems to work as we both make each other think.
It’s up to each of us to seek the truth. You gave this person good information and are to congratulated for a calm and reasoning demeanor. He’ll have to take it from there, if he so desires.
I was once almost attacked by lib for my “we need to kill more” response.
I knew I wasn’t going to get a positive response, and frankly, I didn’t care.
We she started yelling we had no business killing babies in Iraq for oil, I just said back at her, “First Irag, then Iran, then Syria, then France, and then Hollywood!”
Heck, it made as much sense as she did, probably more. Her friends had to hold the girl back saying, “Shhh, shhh, she’s just a nut”. LOL.
Seriously, you did good. Unfortunately, libs believe that the only free speech is that with which they agree.
I saw this really cute witch that you hang on your front door today for Halloween. I thought for a second about getting it and putting a little sign above it saying, “Hillary says, Happy Halloween”.
But the libs don’t have a sense a humor, and I don’t want to point my house out to them.
Whoops, that’s Iraq, not Irag. I’m typing sideways on my keyboard.
I’ve found that what libs hate most is RIDICULE of thier ideas. Dammit, they just CARE so much!
Pointing, snickering, and outright laughing at loons wearing “Bush Lied!!” t-shirts pushes thier fragile egos to the edge of outright violence.
Never try to argue with a lib, just laugh at them. It drives the point home better than any argument with the demented ever could.
“He also taught me that you can lead a Lib to Truth but you cant make them think!”
Note my tag line...
Wait till BOR get’s ahold of that post. Jeez, you’ll be famous.
Don’t you know by now that you can’t use facts when debating a liberal? It only confuses and agitates them more.
GREAT JOB!!!
They feel betrayed by their rat leaders, led the wrong way. The ghosts of their pro-American ancestry are speaking to them, and they feel like traitors. They wonder if pro-WOT camp will now attack them with the same energy they attacked. They persecuted; now they fear persecution.
What I do with my liberals is let 'em slide on in, and not mention their past traitorism.
He’s like the Miss Manners of murder. lol
Don’t be upset buy this guy. He is a Ron Paul supporter, anyone can tell by your description of him. He is mentally ill as are all Ron Paul supporters.
You can not logically argue a person out of a position that they did not arrive at logically.
Lord have mercy, I have laughed so much on this thread! You guys have brought your A game tonight!
I would have started the conversation by saying “do you want to actually debate facts, or do you just want to rant?” (OK, I am snarky so I probably would have added “like an idiot”)
Libs can’t handle facts. Period. So don’t be upset if they fly off the handle. When an emotional reaction is shown to be just that, based on emotion and not truth (facts, not their twisted logic), they let all that emotion explode! It is the only way to try to convince you that all those squishy feelings are important.
That is a good thing, as it shows them to be childish and irrational. You won’t change a true lib’s feelings, but somebody else nearby may actually use their brain and learn something, and not continue to just parrot what some lib has told them.
Now, as to your “friend”.... he needs to grow a pair and not be afraid of what others might or might not think about him or you. If someone is going to sit and spew garbage, he should be challenged. Polite acquiescence is what has us in the societal trouble we are in today.
This makes you laugh?
I have plenty of moonbats in my family. I used to try reason and logic on them but only found myself angry and frustrated and dreading family getogethers. I stopped trying as there was no point anyway.
Remember the old saw: Who’s the real idiot? The idiot, or the guy trying to argue with him?
There is a fine line between harrassing liberals and abusing the mentally ill.
I wish someone could show me where it is! ;^)
