We relax by taking our dog to the local dog park and chat with others who bring their dogs. Today, a man sat across from us and began his tirade about the government's conspiracy in blowing up the World Trade Center.
I've heard this before so just nodded and let him continue. His history lesson finally caused me to jump in. He believes that Iran is really our friend and that George Bush is only attempting to gain an excuse to use a nuke.
I then interjected that the current leader of Iran is a believer of the 12th Iman, he didn't have a clue. When I tried to explain his belief of the end of the world, he stated that Iran is our friend and Bush is the believer of Ammagedon.
When I suggested he read "The Looming Tower", and that it just received the Pulitzer, he referred me to the BBC.
The conversation was not heated until I mentioned Clinton's disregard for people, namely women. He jumped up, spit out "who cares, Bush wants to murder people throughout the world", ran out of the park, leaving his wife and his dog.
My friend was extremely upset. He said that my citing sources intiminated the guy. And, that I should refrain from expressing my strong opinions.
I would like to hear from others as to how you would handle a situation like this.
I have a friend at work who is liberal. I have worked with her daily for almost 3 years. She is not near as liberal as she used to be. :)
I find ways here and there to gently point out the facts and why I have my political views. We have even now made a habit of bringing in materials relating to ballot issues and debating the points and how and why we will vote prior to elections. Even if her view doesnt change, she has learned to think about it and investigate instead of listening to a commercial and voting emotionally.
I try to take a reasonable tone specifically because I dont want to appear like some leftist nut in reverse. But some days
it is more than I can stand and I do occasionally loose it. I realize these people dont listen to reason and are best ignored most of the time, but some things really raise my hackles and I cant keep quiet. 9-11 is one of them.
You gotta do what you gotta do. Its exhausting to argue with idiots on a daily basis so you kinda have to choose your battles. you may not have changed his mind, but he might be less likely to go off in front of strangers again.
Truth is to Liberals what Crucifixes, Garlic and Holy water are to Vampires.
Dude, thats going into my quote hall of fame.
You can substitute the “LBJ did it” for the “Bush did it” and see the same behavior. Freeper mo on post 105 nailed it with the type of psychosis these people have. Logic and facts mean nothing to these sad and hateful people. I wish Jim Robinson would deletes these posts since it makes FR look like a laughing stock and just as bad as the nuts on DU.
Sometimes I think DU trolls are on those threads to make FR look bad.
Id try to change your mind, but youd have to go and find it first.
Classic.
It is frightening to know that there are many out there who don’t believe the threat of terrorism. And, that many are sitting in our Congress.
The twin towers, Bin Laden tapes, and heightened warnings mean nothing to these folks. When (and if) we get hit again, they might resort to fighting us, instead of radical Islam.
Never try to teach a pig to dance, it wastes your time and annoys the pig
Just say, “Sorry I would confuse you with facts. Have a nice day and don’t drink too much Jim Jones Kool Aid.”
Ditto
Amen brothers!
I was going to ask him about his proof, but I was just so stunned that this crap was coming out of his mouth. It’s one thing to read it on the internet, but damn, a real live “truther”. Plus I was trying to focus on my groceries being rang up.
I hope to run into him again.
