Rudy now sounds adamant about stopping illegal immigration but I agree with you that he is more tolerant of those already here than a lot of us would like. However, I have heard him express an intent to deport any alien who refuses to come forward and get a card with biometic ID.

Fred was likewise not nearly as tough on illegal immigration as most of us would have liked while in the Senate. I am not inclined to hold a lot of what he did against him. All or almost all of his votes were before 9/11, which changed immigration into a national security issue.

You could say the same about Rudy. Pre 9-11 attitudes are of limited use to me in judging him. I put more stock in his current views because 9-11 really did change things.

You’re making the best case that can be made for either Fred Thompson or Rudy Giuliani, and your argument is strong. I don’t trust either of them, and I likely will not be able to trust either of them unless one is elected and actually performs well in office.
