When they're not bickering, once in awhile members of Congress fall in love.
GOP Reps. Mary Bono of California and Connie Mack of Florida announced their engagement Friday after dating for two years.
Mack proposed a week ago while the couple were on a camping trip in Arches National Park in Utah, said Bono's chief of staff, Frank Cullen Jr.
"Happy news," Cullen said. Congress returned from its summer recess this week and the couple have been informing colleagues.
Bono, 45, was married to the late singer-turned-politician Sonny Bono, and replaced him in a special election in Congress in 1998 representing Palm Springs and other parts of inland Southern California.
Mack, 40, who'd been divorced, is the son of the Florida senator of the same name and great-grandson of a Hall of Fame baseball manager also named Connie Mack.
No wedding date or location has been set.

if her hubbie hadn’t skied into a tree,
she would still be a celebrity housewife.
welcome to the new hollywood hand-me-down political offices
that our founding fathers would not have understood.

but you hafta admit we have a sitting president who inherited his political muscle,
and,
unless the gop can muster up some >powerful< political muscle,
we’ll have another housewife in the u.s. oval office.
look around at hand-me-down family politicians in the u.s. rombot, there’s the infamous u.s. senate seats in missouri and alaska, etc.
should elected offices be inherited?

Boy opposites really do attract. I guess love conquers political affiliations and ideals. Mary Matalin and the Golem are a perfect example of this anomaly. That being said, I just don't get it.

well, the founders didn't have hand-me-down offices to wives, but look at a biographical directory of congress. Many, many folks, right through history are: "son of so-and-so, nephew of him, and great-uncle of Cong. x"; etc. Family connections didn't start just recently.
Not that there's anything necessarily wrong with it -- the Adamses did ok for a while. And, there were far fewer families with plausible claim to office in the old days.

I don’t know anything about either, is one a RINO and the other a true conservative or something? Why the comparison to Matalin and Carville?

Mary bono is a hot tomato.
