What Made Norman Hsu Run?
Wall Street Journal ^ | September 8, 2007 | By IANTHE JEANNE DUGAN in New York, JONATHAN CHENG in Hong Kong and BRODY MULLINS in Washington

At a New York restaurant overlooking Central Park in April 2006, the governor of Pennsylvania sat down to dinner with about a dozen Democratic supporters. The 10-course meal in a private room at Per Se, including dishes like Nova Scotia Lobster Tail "Cuite Sous Vide," cost about $18,000, says a diner who was there. The host, Norman Hsu, was a businessman that the crowd admired but knew little about.

In the past few weeks, much more has become known about Mr. Hsu: That he had filed for bankruptcy twice, including a time in 1990 when he said he had no income, no job, and little more than a Toyota 4-Runner and a jade ring. And that he was wanted by California authorities for grand theft charges to which he had pleaded no contest in 1992, then fled before facing sentencing.

Mr. Hsu turned himself in on that matter a week ago, after news coverage of his past -- which began with a Wall Street Journal article about his unusual campaign giving -- had brought the conviction to light and led politicians to hand over some of his campaign donations to charity. Mr. Hsu posted a $2 million bond -- and then he vanished again. On Wednesday, when he was supposed to appear in court in California, he instead boarded Amtrak's eastbound California Zephyr near Oakland. Along the trip he fell, was taken to a hospital in Grand Junction, Colo., and arrested. On Friday, authorities were taking steps to send him to California.

The Rat Party (formerly the traditional, patriotic Democratic Party) hacks returned a little bundle dust but they're still clutching those bundles of money.

He charmed friends, relatives, and college classmates into investing in real estate, restaurant and apparel businesses, many of which failed, stranding investors.

So we're expected to believe that these dopes kept pouring tons of money into one Hsu scheme after another and that's where he got his latest pile of money? If among those charmed are the PLA and the Chinese Communist Party Central Committee then, yes, it's believable.

***This Hsu character sounds like a real heel!***

Yes, but didn’t he claim to be the sole owner of some business at one time?

A real... hshit-heel.

YouTube has the answer to why Hsu ran away:

Make sure you have no liquids in your mouth or on your desk. All males are warned to cross their legs before viewing this. My wife was still laughing 10 minutes after she saw this on YouTube.

During the 1980/90's, the Clintoons got by with murder, rape, campaign finance abuse, Arkancide, treason and other crimes due to their buds controlling the MSM. Welcome to the new century, Clintoon criminals. You can't hide your criminal activities anymore.

HSU'S HSU re getting illegal money from you know, HSU!

Disgraced political fund-raiser Norman Hsu - a major donor for Hillary Rodham Clinton and other Democrats - was a wanted man again after he failed to show up for court yesterday, and a judge issued a new warrant for his arrest.

Hsu, whose criminal past has roiled the campaigns of presidential candidates, was scheduled to ask a judge to cut in half the $2 million bail he posted last week when he turned himself in after spending 15 years on the lam from a felony theft conviction.

Instead, San Mateo Superior Court Judge Robert Foiles ordered Hsu's bail forfeited to the county and issued a new arrest warrant.

(excerpt)

According to investigative blogger Flip Pidot (suitablyflip.com), who delved into public records and crunched the numbers, Clinton took the lion's share of political cash ($174,000) from Hsu and his network of suspected donor-bundlers whose campaign checks dwarfed their income. New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo and New York Governor (and former Attorney General) Eliot Spitzer accepted the largest sums of direct cash from Hsu. ($60,100 each)

Reports Pidot: "Among state parties, campaign committees, and advocacy groups, the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee topped the list, with $122,000, though three state Democratic parties or committees (Tennessee, New York, and New Jersey) took more from Hsu directly. Of the 32 organizations that took money from Hsu and his associates, 10 were state Democratic parties and several others were Democratic campaign committees. The 84 individuals who received money from Hsu and his associates included 17 Gubernatorial candidates, 17 Congressional candidates, 27 Senatorial candidates, and a variety of statewide and local candidates. All were Democrats, with the exception of Tom Gallagher, Florida's former CFO and an unsuccessful primary challenger to Charlie Crist in the 2006 Governor race. Including candidate-specific PACs, these individuals have taken just over $1 million from Hsu's group since the 2004 cycle. . . . Another 22 organizations received support from Hsu's network since 2004, primarily Democratic campaign committees and state Democratic parties."

“What Made Norman Hsu Run?”

Interesting that the WSJ never bothers to answer the question.

Berkeley/Wharton were part of his resume on the New School website and was included in news articles by the LA Times, and others.

Exactly. That's the problem--and the architecture of Hsu's persona. It relies on the credulity of journalists and the clubby circles to do the work of replicating the lie. It's on the New School website, so the LA Times prints it. Yet John Kerry himself acknowledged that, no, no one there checked it out. The network newsreaders consider the LA Times solid sourcing, so they repeat it. It's a big circle jerk.

It was also part of his resume published in news articles 20 years ago. (Still doesn’t mean it is true, but below is an example).

Nice catch. A fashion industry journal would be the perfect place to seed the academic credentials story without fear of it actually being checked.

Again, I'm not saying either of his degrees are phony. Just saying that there's not sufficient info for media to be repeating it without better confirmation.

Wikipedia. Excellent. A great one-word summation for how Hsu’s self-sourced resume became “fact.”
