Well damn. The NRA called me yesterday and I didn’t pick it up. Wished I had known about this then.

a piece of UNasked for advice: the Model 65 S&W is THE REAL THING!

the model 65 was designed for the OkHP & to survive 25+ YEARS of highway patrol daily service, with FULL-power 357Mag loads, WITHOUT any more maintenance than monthly cleaning!!! (mine, fwiw, will outlast ME & it is willed to my 18YO nephew, upon my death.)

mine happens to be a 4", but the 3" or even the 2.5" barrel is FINE too. (imVho, the barrels shorter than 4" are TOO LOUD & harder to shoot accurately, while being NO MORE concealable than the 4". the "snubbies" just LOOK "cool".)

Model 65's are FREQUENTLY for sale at many gun-shows (in VG or BETTER condition, btw) for the princely sum of $ 250.oo, give or take about 25 bucks. (look for the CA Dept of Corrections "surplus" revolvers, as they were carried but SELDOM fired. MANY that i've seen are UNfired!!!)

another piece of unasked for advice, in a REAL shootout, where your LIFE is at stake, do NOT trust ADJUSTABLE sights. i've seen MANY adjustable sights "come apart" on the RANGE, after as little as 100 shots.

FIXED sights are the thing for COMBAT & will NOT fail you.

btw, my "deer rifle" this year will be a 150# pull crossbow, as we have a SIX MONTHS long deer (archery & gun combined- archery throughout is fine.) season & 30+ days for bear too, in some of the "over the mountain counties".

one wonders why they don't just not have a year-long open season, as many deer as we now have here.(i saw 5 does in our "front yard" over the weekend & "shooed" a doe out of the road - she was just STANDING there in the road, looking around like a "tourist" - in front of the school down the street SAT about 11AM!!)

Ahhh..yes. My preferred choice to shoot deer is a bow. I shoot a Diamond compound, and a 45# recurve. Bow season starts here..the 1st of Oct. and lasts until Jan. 15th. Although Jan. is doe only.....Can't wait!!

Yes, they are pests...even where I live. But very pesty in urban areas....

Let me know how you do!! I'll do the same...

That is the kind of interview that Jackson should have given. Educational in so many ways. You can go to http://www.klru.org/texasmonthlytalks/archives/nugent/intro.asp to see the full Nuge interview. He talks about the WOT and more.

My dad is trying to get approval from the MI DNR to hunt with a crossbow during the archery season, not sure how that will turn out.

I have yet to take time to go hunting down here, been here for 5+ years. Hoping to do it this year, been invited by a couple of guys at work.

” the totally accurate jack-booted thugs remark (I think made by Wayne LaPierre). “

Rep. Dingel, D (MI) said it on the floor of Congress. Nothing happened to him.

LaPierre repeated it and got flamed for what a Democrat House member said in public.

The current public perception is that the horrid NRA was the originator.

IF your dad is over 55YO and/or has any sort of a physical disability, it should be easy to get a CB license.

Until recently you could not use a crossbow at all in MI unless you had a medical disability of the upper body. Recently they have changed that to allow anyone over age 12 to use one during firearms season.

Current wording for disabled hunter crossbow use is A person with a permanent minimum 80 percent disability, in combination or individual impairment, of a hand, elbow or shoulder, may apply for a crossbow permit.

A person with a permanent disability who has the full use of only one arm may apply for a modified bow permit. This permit allows modifications to a compound bow, including the addition of an overdraw lock device. This modification may not convert a compound bow into a crossbow.

I am trying to get them to move down here or a least stay down here during the winters. He is 73 years old.

interesting.

in my case it makes little difference, as i can NO longer "draw a bow" at all, as a result of a ruptured tendon in my right arm, that 2 years after the fall still hasn't healed. (my orthopedist "fixed me up" with a notarized letter that works in EVERY state, as "upper body" disabled.)

your dad should "have a chat with" HIS physician about this subject.

Isn’t that just typical! Thanks for the info that Dingel said it first. I’ll be sure to include that from now on.

You are welcome, Sal!

There are plenty of online references to back you up, too. I don’t think the Congressional Record is online back that far, though. That is the definitive source.

All scars are not healed...that’s why I carry and is a motivating force behind telling folks why the Second Amendment is important. I travel everywhere I can to deliver my speech on the History of the Second Amendment. It’s a real eye opener. I don’t feel comfortable without my protection in my purse and I don’t want anyone telling me I can’t choose it have it!
