What are the details of the case? I’m not a fan of getting an advertising page from the NYSlimes when I click the link...
Drunk illegal immigrants sleeping in the streets or cops "exposing" them to death through unnamed actions?
This one is murky....can’t really tell what is what.
“I can’t believe this is happening.”
why?
Alcoholism doesn’t cause torn mesentery, a membrane that connects the intestines to the abdominal wall and it sure doesn’t happen by itself.
It’s unclear to me that the officer actually hit the vagrant. If he did, and caused these injuries, he should be tried. My question is this. Could the vagrant have injured himself? Did this have to be an instance of brutality by the officer?
The grand jury seems to think so. I’m not sure how reliable the body is, if there was a good DA.
I would hate to see the officer have to stand trial unfairly, but would hate it worse to see the guy get off for killing someone.
What a mess.
Whatever the case with the dead vagrant, be he illegal or the habitual town drunk, he didn’t deserve the death penalty for his actions. If he is shown to have died at the hands of another, I want the perp taken down.
The death of [petty criminal] Mr. Perez, who was here illegally, upset the already fragile relations in this wealthy village in northern Westchester County, where professionals and owners of rambling horse farms coexist with day laborers and struggling families.
He wasn't an IMMIGRANT. He was an ILLEGAL ALIEN, dammit.
So what’s the problem? One less illegal alien bum in the world! One down, twenty million to go! As they used to say in the classic tv show Rawhide - Head em up and move em out!
This is not clear- what did the PO do? Was he even there when the illegal died? If cops were arrested every time a homeless, drunk and stupid illegal died, we wouldn’t HAVE any police departments left. There aren’t enough cops for all the drunken illegals on ANY given night.
"The death of Mr. Perez, who was here illegally, upset the already fragile relations in this wealthy village in northern Westchester County, where professionals and owners of rambling horse farms coexist with day laborers and struggling families. About one-quarter of residents are Hispanic, most of them immigrants from Guatemala. The death of Mr. Perez followed at least two other suspicious and unsolved homicides of illegal immigrants in recent years. Santos Bojorguez, 33, was found strangled here in 2003, and Robert Martinez, 42, was killed the same way in 2004. "

In a tightly knit community of old money wealth comes 2,500 illegals (25% of the total population) and someone’s surprised that one of them gets found stomped to death?
We need a few more facts.
Can't believe WHAT is happening? There is simply not enough information in that NYT story to know if the cop had anything to do with this mans's death or not.
Multiple overlapping problems here of course, guy is here illegally, obviously a drunken vagrant with an arrest record, and he turns up dead with a coroner's report indicating the guy might have suffered at someone else's hands. The record shows the cops where there and likely the last people to see the man alive. Three officers were present, but only one is charged...
I have enough here to suspect a story, but the story's not in that report and there's nothing available to be shocked about just yet..
Cheers,
Lloyd
This still happens in some P D’s across the country, he was a trouble maker, so they just took him for “A ride”.
