DNC seeks dirt on Thompson
As Fred Thompson tested the presidential waters this summer, the Democratic National Committee (DNC) was looking to dig up dirt on the former Tennessee senator.
DNC researcher David Schnitzer filed many Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests that sought all communications between federal agencies and Thompson, according to a review of government FOIA logs.
Schnitzers search for information was broad. He sent FOIA requests to dozens of agencies, ranging from the Federal Trade Commission to the Department of Transportation to the National Indian Gaming Commission.
Requesting such data is not unusual for political operatives. But Schnitzers requests show that the DNC is taking Thompson quite seriously.
The DNC wouldnt reveal what Schnitzer found, but if he found something juicy, its safe to say it will emerge in 2008 if Thompson wins the GOP primary.
A Thompson spokesman did not comment by press time.

This is pretty funny when you consider the mother lode of damning facts on the pure corruption that is the Clintons.

They know he will clean Hillary’s clock. Of course they fear him! I did a FOIA request once and it took years to get a response. Somehow I think the DNC will get a much quicker answer from theirs...

Or there was nothing useful in his file. As Fred says, that’s what you get for having lead the perfect life.
They’ve been digging on Fred since March. Good luck, guys, Fred’s an open book.

I would hope the RNC will file it too to see what the Dems might be looking at.

Theyve been digging on Fred since March. Good luck, guys, Freds an open book. ................. Look what they did with Bush’s DUI at the age of 20(?). Then later they had the Dan Rather report. The DNC can make mountains out of pimples when it gets down to the wire. Take nothing for granted, they know how to play the game even if it takes cheating to do it and project the blame on the opposition.
To: JeanS
They already have shown they don’t understand who they are up against. They didn’t understand Reagan and though Fred isn’t Reagan they still can’t comprehend his ability to speak to the citizen.

This is news?
Both Dems and Republicans have spent the summer trying to take him out. I’m certain they have more in store. They always do. What is telling is that he was able to sustain high numbers, even with little visibility, in the face of these attacks. Suggests Fred already has a strong core of support. Now he needs to expands on it.

I know how they operate. But I also know how Fred Thompson operates. They haven’t seen the likes of him yet. And they’re not going to like dealing with it.

I think this should be a standard procedure in a national campaign. I’m surprised (and a bit disappointed) if the Republican side doesn’t do the same. Is it legal? I believe so, since he was filling a request to do so. As long as the way he tries to get the info is legal, I don’t see any problem there. Is it ethical? Why not? It’s simply to see what a government official did while he was in office. Whether the respective institution grants the request or not, that’s a different issue.
