Egypt (AP) - Terror mastermind Osama bin Laden plans a new video addressing the American people regarding the anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks, terror monitoring groups said Thursday. SITE Intelligence Group said an Internet announcement of the plan included a photo of the al-Qaida leader from the upcoming videohis beard, which in previous messages had been streaked with gray, was entirely dark.

Listening to this is actually funny. Sounds like Hugo Chavez wrote bin Laden’s speech.

What a difference 6 years makes. in 2001, he sent planes into our buildings. In 2007, he’s making DNC videos. :-)

Yeah, and I wonder how much the DNC is paying him. [Sadly, I think, I’m only about 10% kidding about this.]

Some Republican group could make a very compelling side by side comparison of this video and Dem positions, if one were so inclined and funded. ehhh huh.

Probably running out of homicide bombers.
But not sissy’s! LOL

I agree with you. OBL is dead and he has been dead for some time. If anyone thinks the picture now being shown on news channels is OBL, they should have their eyes checked. That picture with the dark beard is a much younger man than OBL. Let’s bury the bastard and leave it at that.

IMO, this is going to be another bit of old footage (like the last several) or its one of his lookalikes.
Apparently the tape is recent, and the voice matches previous recordings. However, there is the curious fact that Bin Ladin appears to have dyed his beard black (has he gone "metro" now?).
Your suspicion is right: first generation al-Qaida recycles old footage and throws out red herrings every now and then, sort of as red meat for the faithful.

Things are looking pretty fishy. OBL turns up with a black beard which is forbidden for Muslims unless the intent is a jihad, and then he tells America to embrace Islam; a call to convert is required by Islam before an attack.
And we’re 4 days away from 9/11’s anniversary, but this time it falls on the same day as the original attack: Tuesday.
Be on the watch, folks

I'd tend to agree that bin Ladin is dead, and has been for a couple of years, not from his fictional kidney disorder, but from lymphoma or Marfan syndrome.
Here's the problem: We've heard not one murmur about his death from the Islamic world. While it would certainly be a concession to the U.S. for al-Qaida to admit that bin Ladin has died, I would expect for there to be some sort of veneration for "Sheikh Ussamah."
It may just be me, but it looks like bin Ladin dyed his beard black--and probably trimmed it, which may or may not violate Sharia law--as a show of vigor and strength. This from a man who is quite literally wasting away in a valley fortress in Waziristan with what looks to be a rather paltry supply chain.
That said, bury the bastard, one way or another.

Extremely good and thorough assessment, but you missed one thing : the group - and this will include politicians and media types as well as the "man on the street" brainwashed and brain dead at the hand of the mass media - will nod sagely and say the new video was made by (Bush insult of your choice here) to scare us and make us forget that Iraq is a Quagmire like Viet Nam and we never should have invaded.
Did I miss that, or just conveniently omit it? First, there is a lot of power in frightening the public to sway their support. September 11 th could be used, misused, and abused seven ways from Sunday. However, I don't buy into the disordered consipiracy rantings about this latest statement from bin Ladin. Yes, I've heard the comparisons to Orwell's "Emmanuel Goldstein," and don't accept such nonsense for a second. You're quite right that a great deal of Americans will tacitly accept the tabloid insinuations surrounding the bin Ladin video. Maybe Karl Rove's parting shot?
As the Clinton's knew all too well, people prefer to have other people do their thinking for them. That's why most people are far more likely to believe a rumor of conspiracy darkly whispered behind someone's hand then in flat, straight facts. One requires an effort to analyze it and discover it's a hoax and the other requires an effort to assimilate information into current events in order to create cohesive patterns.
Conspiracy theories are fun and invigorating because they make the viewer a participant, if you will; i.e., you are getting further towards "the truth," and the truth in this regard is nebulous and never certain, but somehow the enemy is ultimately out to get you. The fact that 9-11 conspiracies have gained the popularity that they have is very disturbing, and indicative of how we've prostituted our minds for what is, basically, entertainment--and poor entertainment, at that.

I think we should deliver a nuclear weapons strike on bin Ladens’ known hideout on 9/11

LOL. I couldn't agree more. Bin Ladin never was the ten-foot-tall monster that we imagined him to be. He was, and is, something of a folklore hero who's attained Godfather status--but don't discount that. Radical Muslims, superficially against all forms of idolatry, consider bin Ladin to be a quasi-Messiah.
And maybe Evil Bert, now that I think about it.
