Seahawks duo blitzed by Bush backlash
Seattle PI ^ | 9-6-07 | Jim Moore

KIRKLAND -- Are you still fans of Matt Hasselbeck and Mack Strong after they visited President Bush last week in Bellevue? Or have their political leanings turned you against them?

The Seahawks quarterback and fullback gave the 43rd president a No. 43 jersey with his name on it at a $1,000-a-plate fundraiser for Rep. Dave Reichert at the Hyatt.

At the time, Hasselbeck called it a thrill and said it was a win-win, this opportunity to meet the president and get out of a team meeting.

But as soon as he saw the picture of the two players with Bush, Gary Wright, the team's vice president of administration, said he was concerned about negative reaction.

Maybe in really red Republican states, it would not have been a big deal. But Washington is a blue state, and deep, deep Democratic blue in King County. So objections were raised, and Hasselbeck heard them and read them. He got nasty voice mails, e-mails and text messages.

"I had no idea," Hasselbeck said.

One guy told him: "I hate you, I'll never wear your jersey, I'll never like the Seahawks again."

"Huh?" Hasselbeck thought. "Seriously?"

"Politics can be very mean and dirty," he said. "The things politicians say about each other, and what activists say, I had a brief glimpse of that for a couple of days.

"If I ever had any questions about whether I wanted to run for office, I now know the answer -- I don't."

As a quarterback, he's used to getting booed. "But this was a whole new level," he said. "I was very surprised how mean (they were)."

The article in your rag claims Mike Holmgen was happy he wasn’t invited to the affair because his wife is a die hard liberal and he couldn’t withstand her wrath.

“All those liberal Husky fans in Seattle will cry when they discover that Jake Locker is also a levelheaded conservative”

When Bush was running for President in 2000 I volunteered to stand in front of Husky Stadium prior to the games with a Bush/Cheney sign. Man did it get ugly. I had been flipped off so many times I lost count, I had one guy yelling in my face tempting me to throw a punch, and even had a few spit at my feet. I could not imagine how awful that job would be now. There were a number of smiles, nods, and thumbs up, but the brutality of the lefties is what stuck in my mind.

But someone ending their support for the Seahawks as a whole is akin to a country music fan refusing to listen to ANY act of the Dixie Chicks’ record label. Kind of punishing the wrong people.

Right. Ten bucks says the guy was never a Seahawks fan in the first place.

>Unbelievable. Shows you how deep seated the hatred for George Bush is.<

I am a Republican Washingtonian, not from King County, and am embarrassed to say that Hsu donated $4200 to DINO Senator Maria Cantwell.

As an observer, I note that the further left BOTH parties slide, the ruder and less mature are their members.

This does not bode well for the future ANYWHERE in the USA.

And to listen to libs talk, conservatives are the hate-filled bigots. Lots of displaced anger there.

Rush was right. Folks like that aren’t true football fans.

Seattle libs evoke imagery of a yappy, spoiled-rotten little dog of the sort that leaves little turds on their uppity owners’ white carptets, between the Grand Piano and the antique credenza.

Well, isn’t that a principled stand that Jordan took.

Not too surprised by the reaction he got. I’ve gotten the same reaction from normally friendly people when I voice anything that even comes close to being positive about Bush.

The left’s hatred is as irrational as it is all-encompassing. They are literally consumed by it.

You know, that’s THEIR problem, not mine. As far as I’m concerned I will talk about GW all I want, hell with them. As if a little $rick’s temper tantrum is going to squelch my right to say my opinion. Even though I disagree with GW on immigration I still respect the man and the POSITION of President of the United States of America!

But wait just a minute, liberals in deep, deep, deep blue states are supposed to be ultra-tolerant.

Personally, I think the office dweller of the team is a chicken sh!t scaredy-boy.

Lucky the Seahawks never won the Superbowl. They’d lose most of their fans after the team visit to the White House.

Being a born and raised EASTERN Washingtonian and a Seahawks fan since day one, I’m gonna ask for two Seahawks Jerseys for Christmas with Matt Hasselbeck and Mack Strong’s names and numbers. They’ll go nicely with my out-of-place Seahawks jacket here in 49er and Raider’s country.

"As a quarterback, he's used to getting booed. "But this was a whole new level," he said. "I was very surprised how mean (they were)." The Rats spit on Eagle Scouts at their convention a few years back. Nothing is beneath them. Well, maybe the Islamofacists, but not much more."

I am actually not so sure of that, Islamofacists are at least honorable in a sense, they are consistent and keep their word. You can't even give Liberals THAT much, they will say anything at the time that they need to, with out regard for truth, honor or even common decency. Only way they are better, they do not build and set bombs, though they WILL give out information about how we are going to STOP islamofacists thereby helping them, so its a toss up really.
