16 year-old Danielle Cookson took a job at an Albertsons grocery store so she could save money for college. She soon saw the ugly face of forced unionism when UFCW union bosses sent her a letter saying she had to pay up or be fired:

Ah yes, I have to vote on going union a week from next Tuesday, so any fire to persuade my fellow workers to vote NO is greatly appreciated. Amalgamated Transit Union.
Unions and Income Tax
The illegals’ best friends.
As a part time employee I had a similar experience, except I had no choice and no letter sent to me. My first paycheck was for $0.10. I learned the paycheck was low because the AFL-CIO Union had taken out its "initiation fee" and dues from my first paycheck. I became a card carrying member of the union like my daddy and my granddaddy. But, as a part time employee high school student, I reaped zero benefits. That is, no vacation pay, no sick pay, no voting rights, no voice, basically nothing to show for my "investment." I was working 26 hours a week (12 hours of that on Saturday) at the time while a full time student in high school.
I would say that the title should read "Marxists," instead of Liberals in this case.
Have any of your co-workers seen the financial statements of the union organization? The union management’s pay, their benefits, etc???? THAT is a great thing to get your hands on and pass around.
Unions have outlived their usefulness.. and have become extortionists...
Sure...Tell them job security is bad...Tell them lower benefits and wages is a plus...Tell them paid vacations are bad...All that time off work makes you lazy...
Tell them you are against grievance procedures...A boss should have the right to fire someone he has a personality conflict with...After all, you're going to own a transit company some day and you don't want to be hindered with unions...Tell 'em that it's good for your wages to go down while the cost of living goes up...Look at all the new friends you'll meet at soup kitchens and food pantries...
And, you'll no longer be able to suck up to the boss to get a raise...Or a better position...They'll go by that lousy seniority...
There, hope I helped you...
Not yet, great idea, I’ll get this to my anti-union followers to help execute the plan.
Unions want to take your money so they can control your life and line their pockets.
The same with the government. Remember teh old TV ad with the kid who just got his first paycheck and he looked at it and said, “Who’s FICA and who said he could take my money?”
Both of these things need opt-out clauses.
“Good unions don’t need cumpulsory unionism; bad unions don’t deserve it.” — Samuel Gompers
Most unions do absolutely nothing for their “members” anymore except take their money to line the union bosses’ pockets. They’ve outlived their usefulness.
Companies are providing good salaries, good benefits, and unions are attacking them for doing so. Remember the attacks on the Coors brewery?
There is a good reason that only 7 percent of the American labor force (an ever-declining number) is in unions. It’s because more and more workers recognize that unions do nothing for them.
That's right, because the only reason why anyone ever got a raise was because of sucking up to the boss. Obviously merit would have nothing to with it.
If you have a problem with your money going to the Union to support causes that you don’t agree with, I do, then simply opt to have your dues go to “Fair Share”. I believe that all unions have to offer this option primarily for religious beliefs. Then your money goes to a charity organization that you should be able to direct by picking off of a list, for example you could pick United Way.
this just completely bypasses the whole principle here. that is your money. by simply deferring a portion of it to charity does not solve the problem of unions forcing workers to pay dues just to keep a job and feed their families. if i want to give my money to a charity i will, but, i certainly am not looking to have the union be a conduit for those funds. end compulsory unionism.
Little update with a thanks, nrtw.org gotten from a search on information I got from the YouTube has been a good resource as the information coming from the Union was Minnesota was a ‘right to work state’, wrong it’s not. They are just trying to get the part-timers not to vote, thinking they could opt out, and they can’t.
This article from World Socialist Web Site will hopefully be the next leak they have to discuss at their outing;
http://www.wsws.org/articles/2004/apr2004/minn-a22.shtml
Minneapolis and St. Paul bus drivers, mechanics and office personnel returned to their jobs April 19 after a bitter 44-day bus strike that resulted in workers being compelled to accept a concessionary contract under which they will pay for the budget shortfalls in the states transit system. The new agreement covering the 2,200 members of Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) Local 1005 will expire in little more than 15 months on July 31, 2005, and lay the basis for a new round of expected concessions.
When you go on strike, you get 'strike pay', which barely covers gas money. The union bosses get their full salaries and you STILL have to pay dues even when out on strike.
Look to see who is the union rep(s). Most likely they are the biggest brown-nosers in the company so they can 'communicate' with the employer who the troublemakers are so they fire you when you finally come back to work.
‘Scuse me, but am I the only person to remember the Beck decision? Under Beck, even in closed-shop states the union could only collect bargaining costs from a reluctant employee. Such union funds as went to political donations were non-collectible. Terms like “freedom of speech and association” were in the SCOTUS language.
For a brief span under Bush 41, notice of Beck had to be added to the standard workplace employee advisories along with non-discrimination, workers comp, OSHA, etc. The workplace posting was removed by Clinton in, I believe his very first executive order.
Unless I am mis-informed, Beck has never been overturned and still rules, though George W. never reversed Slick Willie’s exec. order.
I have never been union, but from the contracts I recently reviewed, it seems they are geared toward those close to retirement, and the new workers footing the bill in lost wages and benefits.
Having trouble finding this Union, Amalgamated Transit Union Local 1005 in Minneapolis,
