NEW YORK -- Eleven public officials were charged Thursday in a widespread FBI corruption investigation, officials said.

At least one state assemblyman, several local mayors and school board officials were arrested by FBI agents in early-morning roundups. The officials are expected to be arraigned on corruption charges in Trenton Thursday afternoon.

United States attorney Chris Christie and FBI Special Agent in Charge Weysan Dun are expected to explain the charges at a 3:30 p.m. press conference in Trenton.

WNBC.com has learned that several of the officials were allegedly caught accepting payoffs from undercover agents in a sting operation. Others were charged as part of related corruption investigations. The accused officials served in at least three counties, including Essex, Atlantic and Passaic.

Sources told WNBC.com that those charged include Passaic Mayor Sammy Rivera, Passaic Council members Jonathan Soto and Marcellus Jackson, Orange Mayor Mims Hackett and Passaic Assemblyman Alfred Steele.

Officials said one of those charged was Passaic Mayor Sammy Rivera. Two Passaic Council members have also been charged, sources told WNBC.com.

As a side note for memory:

Campaign Cash From World’s Worst Fugitive

Lots of Democratic pols, most prominently Hillary Clinton, are dealing with some embarrassment this week, after stories first appearing in the L.A. Times and Wall Street Journal about a major fund-raiser who is also a fugitive in California. Fifteen years ago, Norman Hsu pleaded guilty in an investment fraud case, then skipped out on his sentencing. These days, the Hong Kong native is a fairly well-known businessman in the New York apparel business, and since 2004 or so a heavy-hitting Democratic donor and fund-raiser. He’s not exactly in hiding, even on the board of a college while his address is littered across campaign finance reports. Somebody should introduce the California fugitive squad to Google. Anyway, Hsu gave $1,000 to Jon Corzine’s campaign for governor in 2005 and Frank Lautenberg’s U.S. Senate re-election campaign this year. Both say they’ll give the money to charity or return it. Then again, they’re rich and not running for election this year. The New Jersey Democratic Party isn’t so sure it’ll give its money up. They’ve gotten $49,000 since 2005 and claim they will check their legal options. Shouldn’t they already have done that research from when they had to cough up Charlie Kushner’s cash?

Well she was wrong about at least two of them:

Democratic state Assemblymen Mims Hackett Jr. and Alfred E. Steele were among those arrested, along with Passaic Mayor Samuel Rivera.

I doubt that because the two state assemblymen busted are democrats and they are the biggest fish caught.

Among those charged are Samuel Rivera, the mayor of Passaic; Assemblyman Mims Hackett, Jr., who is also the mayor of Orange; Assemblyman Rev. Alfred E. Steele, from Paterson; and Keith Reid, the chief of staff to Newark City Council President Mildred Crump. All are Democrats.

See, Tony Soprano is gone and the whole operation folds ;-)

Oh please let one of the trails lead to Corzine’s office. That would be poetic.

I’m troubled, confused and puzzled.

It will all go the way of Schumer’s cooling saucer.
Because as you know... they never make ethics rules, ergo, they don’t have to follow any rules... just scream at republicans, who mess up and made ethics rules. /s
