On the eve of his big day, Fred Thompson has let another staffer go.
Jim Mills, the former Fox News producer who joined the campaign only weeks ago, has resigned due to "strategic differences." This from campaign manager Bill Lacy in a memo to the staff, sent out Tuesday "just before we begin the Big Dance."
"Our new Communications Director Todd Harris is building an experienced and aggressive team of campaign professionals to help lead our press operation," Lacy wrote. He added, "This constitutes a substantial shift, not in our candidate's message, but in the way we support it and enhance it. Due to this shift, Jim Mills has informed me that he is leaving the campaign due to strategic differences. I respect Jim's decision and encourage all of you to join me in wishing him the best of luck."
Mills, who was hired away from Fox in July, is the latest to depart Thompson's operation, which has been hit by one resignation after another as the candidate retooled his senior staff over the summer. Linda Rozett was hired away from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce to serve as the communications director, only to leave after Lacy replaced former manager Tom Collamore. Harris replaced Rozett.

Waaaaaa! I can’t have my way! Waaaaaaaa!
FRed, and his best team members KNOW their desired destination, and what direction they need to go, and are going to do whatever it takes to get there!
I say, AMF, dude!
He’s dooooooomed I tell you! dooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooomed!!!!
I'm absolutely sure that he will. At least once. One appearance will probably happen soon after he announces. And I'm sure that he'll be on again before Super-duper Tuesday.
Sounds like Fred will not announce Thursday. Note how staffers leave around the time he is supposed to “declare” his candidacy.
Funny how some dismiss Debbie Schlussel as “left” when she is 100% accurate about Fred. Fred sounds like another Bush Liberal Globalist
I guess Michelle Malkin is a RINO too, right?

Fred Thompson and Spencer Abraham: Bad combo
By Michelle Malkin July 26, 2007 11:41 AM In my 2002 book Invasion (p. 71, 76), I noted the open-borders obstructionism of former Sen. Spencer Abraham (R-Michigan), who fought to block the implementation of two different tracking databasesone for foreign student visa holders and the other for all temporary visitors (which was mandated by Section 110 of the 1996 Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act). Abraham led efforts to starve the first database of funding and crusaded several times to kill Section 110 altogether. On September 11, 2001, neither of those databases was in place. To this day, they remain incomplete.
Now, Fred Thompson has gone and hired Open Border Spence as his acting campaign manager
Bad, bad move. If the Fred campaign is trying to win over grass-roots conservatives, this is a dumb way to do it.
Debbie Schlussel has followed the soft-on-terrorism career of Spencer Abraham. Yikes.
It may not play well with hard core political types, but I think it will go over well with the average Joe Sixpack.
After a few months of campaigning and a coupe of debates, this will be mostly forgotten.
If RINO = Wrong about Spencer Abraham being Fred’s campaign manager, then yes, she’s a RINO.
