Consider the Beretta .32 cal Tomcat as a carry piece. Small size being it's greatest benefit. Does anyone know the effective stopping power? Ads claim that with hollow points it is as effective as a .380. How effective is that? I wonder if this gun could wind up being a lawsuit maker rather than a lifesaver. Any opinions?
Stopping power near zero.
Apologies to those if I did not post this correctly.
belly gun...
Anemic at best. The phrase 'better than nothing' comes to mind.

Talk about damning with faint praise....

I wouldn’t want to be shot with it, but it must have some benefit.
A .380 is a minimum size... a .32 will just piss off the perp. As small as a .45ACP can be today, I would carry nothing else.
YMMV.

Meaning shove it up against your assailants belly and hope the escaping gas does enough damage to stop him because God knows the bullet wont.

Right. Several shots would cause eventual bleed-out.
Lots of people been killed by .32s. Lots of people been killed by .22s.
Shot placement is everything.
With the .32 and .22, you gotta get those head shots down pat.
Exactly. I walked up on a skunk behind my shed the other night. Unfortunately it set up house under the shed. I had the gun on me and killed it with 3 shots. It made me wonder how effective it would be on somewhat larger vermin.
Guns don’t kill people. Bullets do. Better get some MagSafe bullets for a small caliber gun.
Pick up a Kel Tek P-3AT in .380 caliber. Load it with Winchester Silver Tip .85 grain hollow points.
For any thing under 10 yards it WILL stop them.
I carry a .45 ACP revolver. It’s the Mountain Gun style, that is not much bigger than a .38 They say the .357 is as effective as the .45 for stopping power, that is stopping with a single shot. However, a single shot often does not stop, as my neighbor the cop found out when she shot a moron who was beating on her.
Stay with Beretta and try the 9000S 9mm. It is very light, composite, and compact. For your pocket, try the S&W AirLite (12 oz.) in .38 special. You can also shoot .357 mags in it, but you won’t have a hand left afterward. My favorite pocket gun is a .45 long colt derringer by Bond Arms. It is also a good snake gun loaded w/ .410 shotshells.
I own one of these in 9mm. The 40's have a little more muzzle flip - YMMV.
I have one, steveio, and may get another in titanium.
Your .45 doesn’t do you much good if its sitting at home, the queen of your gun safe. I never leave home without mine.
Feed a Tomcat Winchester `silvertips’ and it has the punch of a .38. Mine’s very accurate, too, for about 20-30 feet and has never misfired.
I can carry in my pocket or wear it in my suitcoat or sportcoat and it doesn’t `print’. Shooting arm/hand no workee? Barrel tips with one hand for re-load.
People who complain about the caliber often think their .40 or .45 will make up for lack of marksmanship, much like those who didn’t like the M-16.
DeSantis makes a nice pocket holster.
