I wasn’t teased by that ad. I would have hit some points harder to compel people to the website.

I definitely think the critics are underestimating him Interesting. .. I'm starting to think the supporters are overestimating him.
(BTW, I'm really undecided at this point.)
To: A CA Guy
See, that’s the problem. He did not have you by his side telling him what he should and should not do. If only he had... then what you think would actually matter and make a difference.

You are right, I seem to have a great taste for what is mass appealing.

"The fate of millions across the world depends on the unity and resolve of the American people."
Seems strange to me, why wouldn't Fred center on why it's important for the American people to show unity and resolve in our fight against terrorism?
Frankly, I think it's more important for us here at home rather than bring up the rest of the world.
This is his first ad right?

As the great Tallulah Bankhead once said to an upstart young actress...
“Dahling, I can upstage without even being on stage.”
Just what Thompson is going to do. With all the other candidates up there, Thompson will overshadow all of them with his absence.

Interesting....I agree with you, and I’m undecided too. I think he’s been waaaay overestimated. Made into a savior...a Reagan reincarnate. Hard to live up to. However, I think the critics are using the blown up image, that he didn’t create himself...the overhype and since he of course falls short of it...making him seem disappointing. I think the critics are underestimating and many supporters are overestimating. Still...undecided.

(((Im sure Ill be flamed for saying this (sigh! Im not looking for conflict, really) but I have to say that Thompsons missing the debate AND airing an ad during the debate just seems like rude and ugly behavior. I dont like it.)))
No flames here. But I LOVE IT! Let the rest of the circus do the debate...Fred is putting the spotlight on his candidacy away from the crowd. I love it.
To: carton253
Actually, I am a good measuring stick for that kind of thing.

Going to this debate can only hurt him. I think it would be stupid to announce today and debate tonight. He probably wants to build some campaign momentum with his basic message before entering a debate. That will take some time. He can’t start campaigning until he announces, which he is doing at midnight. His ad is only telling folks where they can go to get to know more about him.

“kinda strange content.”
I didn’t think so. Simple message, and no mud.
To: Jay777
For a first effort, a solid, straightforward political ad by the Thompson campaign.
No need to worry about Fred. He’ll do fine.

YouTube - Thompson's First Ad
I thought his head bobbed a bit more than necessary. It was kind of distracting even. But this is a first ad. His handlers and media consultants will fine-tune these ads, no doubt.
Since he ducked the debate, a generic announcement takes some of the sting out of refusing to appear at the debate but offering a pre-announcement video to run as a debate commercial.
So he was discreet politically but needs some professional ad work. Still, a good ad for Fred, no doubt.
