BOISE, Idaho - Sen. Larry Craig is reconsidering his decision to resign after his arrest in a Minnesota airport sex sting and may still fight for his Senate seat, his spokesman said Tuesday evening. "It's not such a foregone conclusion anymore, that the only thing he could do was resign," said Sidney Smith, Craig's spokesman in Idaho's capital.
"We're still preparing as if Senator Craig will resign Sept. 30, but the outcome of the legal case in Minnesota and the ethics investigation will have an impact on whether we're able to stay in the fight - and stay in the Senate."
Craig, a Republican who has represented Idaho in Congress for 27 years, announced Saturday that he intends to resign from the Senate on Sept. 30. But since then, he's hired a prominent lawyer to investigate the possibility of reversing his plea, his spokesman said.
Craig was a no-show Tuesday as Congress reconvened after a summer break and it wasn't clear whether he'll return at all since deciding to resign over his guilty plea in a sex sting this summer at the Minneapolis airport.
Another spokesman, Dan Whiting in Washington, said Tuesday that Craig was expected to spend the week in Idaho as the Senate votes on spending bills for veterans and other programs. Whiting did not rule out Craig's returning to Washington before the end of the month.
A telephone call Craig received last week from Sen. Arlen Specter, R-Pa., urging him to consider fighting for his seat is affecting Craig's decision to reconsider his resignation, Smith said.

Are you suggesting that he turned pervert during his stop
in Minn?
must have got a hold of the Kennedy play book.
You may know that I am a good reader and have done research in other languages. I remember what I thought when I first read that police report. I thought, where's the crime. When people began to interpret the foot and hand signals, I thought First Amendment. Mark Levin says the same.
I recognize this technique of destroying people because I have seen it before. It made me sick when they did it to Mark Foley who I knew as a good congressman here. (btw neither FL or the feds have charged him) I hope others will learn to recognize it too. Maybe they will also learn more about the constitution.
As for you and me. WE are not involved. We are not the judge or the jury. Our interest as citizens is in seeing that people's rights are protected, just in case we end up in court sometime. In that event, you would not want anyone to get away with insisting that post 65 was all anyone needed to know. You might want your lawyer to cross examine.
If I were his lawyer, that is a tack I would certainly use. He was returning to DC to do official Senate business, thus he was not subject to arrest under the Constitution.
Of course, I think what he did is disgusting and he should be expelled if he won't resign, but if I were his lawyer, that is one tack that I would try on his behalf.
By law they are entitled to be in congress, representing their voters.
~1/2, 8 are Republicans. Do we kick ours out and leave the Dems in? No!!
This is the practical argument, I think Rush subscribes to. Especially since Craig has been vocally anti gay is why he should fight for his seat.
Where have you been? I’m impressed, your posts are brilliant and courteous.
When You have Arlen “Scottish Law” Specter and Barney Frank defending you, it’s really the time to go.
“He has already voluntarily pleaded guilty to a criminal offense. Why would he be cleared after pleading guilty???”
I don’t think ET knows what a guilty plea is. Apparently neither did Craig.
And stupid...and indecisive.
and that makes him qualified to be a U.S. Senator.
ahhhh they hate to give up the power don’t they!
“He did the right thing. But other people have swayed him. Too bad for him. The torture has just begun.”
The longer this distraction stays around, the democrats and MSM will pound on it right into the 08 elections. If the GOP thought the 06 elections were bad, wait and see what this does in 08.
The issue is not this ONE case.
I think the RNC knows Craig had a history of Toe Tapping.
Specter is just acting like a democrat thinking no standards are required in DC.
The RNC must have been exstatic to dump this old foley.
“Caution others to give the Senator the benefit of the doubt, as the LaCross players were NOT given by many - at first.”
The Lacross players did not plead guilty to ANYTHING and hired a lawyer.
Craig is guilty of stupidity. And undeserving of a senate seat.
I think we need to seperate this case from the kind of person who is tapping feet in a restroom AND flashing his business card.
The court case is a scam and he was railroaded AND the officer was totally off base giving legal advise.
That said, it has NOTHING to do with the content of craig’s character in soliciting sex in public rest rooms.
He is finished politically. I suspect the republican leadership is just plain happy to dump another homosexual foley in their ranks.
Ever heard of "Occam's razor"? Or the old cliche, "If it walks like a duck...."?
Craig is a homosexual pervert who actively seeks anonymous sex with men in filthy public restrooms. He got caught. He PLED GUILTY. He pled guilty IN JUNE and never told anybody.
The Senator walked all the way over from another terminal to go to this particular crowded bathroom and wait an astounding 13 minutes until the stall he wanted became vacant. If this is true, why would the (62-year-old) Senator hold back the rushing tide of necessity when he could just as easily have used any of the bathroom facilities in the terminal where his flight was? If all this is true, there must have been something mighty special about that one particular (crowded) bathroom. The airport police certainly thought there was something special about it, so it wouldnt be surprising that others, such as the Senator, found it special as well.
And that's it from me on this disgusting topic.
I sincerely hope that you will wake up and get a clue. Nobody wants any "pound of flesh" - - most thinking individuals just want Larry Craig to go away and disappear from public sight. The man is an embarrassment, and every second he stays in the news hurts the Republican party.
Regards, and see you on another topic someday,

Rule # 1 for effective damage control : NEVER plead guilty to anything. Like I said, on paper, the case against Craig was tenuous at best. Yet he came back and voluntarily entered a guilty plea two whole months after the fact. Insane.
Rule # 2 for successful damage control : HIRE A FIRST RATE LAWYER/LEGAL TEAM AND LET THEM ARGUE ABOUT THE CHARGES WITH THE D.A.'s OFFICE. Tons of Hollywood celebrities have enough sense to do this. Yet a man who's been writing laws in the United States Senate for the past 17 years couldn't figure this out. Unreal.
I think the insiders knew of his hobby and that is why he was abandoned so quickly.
It is also why he did this stupid thing of pleading guilty, IN WRITING, waiving his right to a lawyer.
He handled this so wrong.
He did not conduct himself like an innocent person. He conducted himself like a RINO. He was toast at election time from the amnesty issue alone.
He already misses the anonymous airport bjs.
sick
He has handled his life so wrong.
