Danish police have arrested several people on suspicion of planning a terrorist attack using explosives, security officials say.
The arrests were made late on Monday in the Copenhagen area, officials said.
It is unclear how many people were arrested or what were the targets they allegedly intended to attack. Denmark's contribution to the US-led military campaign in Iraq has prompted fears it could be targeted by terrorists.
The country also attracted the ire of Muslims worldwide after a Danish newspaper last year printed cartoons depicting the Prophet Muhammad. The suspects held on Monday had been under surveillance, Denmark's police intelligence agency said.

Strange, in the account of the incident from the Danish authorities, there was no mention of anyone being ME or muslim. The BBC made that leap of faith. Not that they were wrong, it’s just that they are so hypocritical about all things PC, like all liberal media.

No they never mention the suspect’s backgrounds - this is ‘so they are ensured a fair trial’ apparently.
Maybe they are all Scottish Presbyterians.

I think that the main link to al Qaeda in this case is a person 19-20 years old and his father of Pakistani origin that are dressed like this
and are loitering at the local Wahhabbi mosque despite this sign:

"These are militant Islamists with connections to high-ranking members of al Qaeda," Jakob Scharf, director of the Danish police's Security Intelligence Service, told a news conference in Copenhagen. He declined to comment on the target of the attack and which country it was planned for.
Scharf said police believed they had foiled an act of terror with the arrests, which came after several months of surveillance.
"Our investigation has shown that some of the suspects had acquired materials to make explosives," he said, but declined to say whether explosives had been found.
It was in the operational phase..and they had contact with senior AQ leadership.

According to Danish media the perps were found to have collected substances to produce TATP. This is the explosive that was used in the London bombings and by the shoe-bomber Richard Reid.
The house was evacuated while Danish police and explosives experts searched the apartment and removed sevaral boxes with material. Two of the suspects have been arrested while the rest will probably be released after interrogation and pending court hearings.
