It is time for the United States to stop treating every American Muslim as somehow suspect, leaders of the faith said at their largest annual convention, which ended here on Monday.
Six years after the Sept. 11 attacks, Americans should distinguish between mainstream Muslims and the radical fringe, the leaders said.
Muslim Americans feel an increasing level of tension and scrutiny in contemporary society, said Ingrid Mattson, president of the Islamic Society of North America, the largest Muslim organization in the United States and the convention organizer.
The image problems were among the topics most discussed by many of the 30,000 attendees. A fresh example cited was an open letter from two Republican House members, Peter Hoekstra of Michigan and Sue Myrick of North Carolina, that attacked the Justice Department for sending envoys to the convention because, the lawmakers said, the Islamic Society of North America was a group of radical jihadists.
The lone Muslim in Congress, Representative Keith Ellison, Democrat of Minnesota, the keynote speaker here, dismissed the letter as ill informed and typical of bigoted attacks that other minorities have suffered.

Leaders of American Muslim organizations attribute the growing intolerance to three main factors: global terrorist attacks in the name of Islam, disappointing reports from the Iraq war and the agenda of some supporters of Israel who try taint (sic)
Islam to undermine the Palestinians. How stupid are these people?

Speaking at the State Department in 1999, Muhammad Hisham Kabbani, a Sufi sheik and leader of the Islamic Supreme Council of America, sounded an alarm about Muslim houses of worship in the United States.
“The most dangerous thing that is going on now in these mosques . . . is the extremists ideology,” he said. “Because they are very active, they took over the mosques; . . . they took over more than 80 percent of the mosques that have been established in the US.” He warned ominously that “a danger might suddenly come that you are not looking for . . . we dont know where it is going to hit.”
Thats all I really have to say.

We should never have let as many come to this country as we have. Suicidal.

Six years after the Sept. 11 attacks, Americans should distinguish between mainstream Muslims and the radical fringe, the leaders said. If the muslims in America would do something to distinguish themselves from their murderous counterparts, then maybe we would too.
Since I don't see any condemnation of radical islam by muslims in the US, I have to conclude that they agree with them and support them.
Too bad for you fellas, if you identify yourselves with them, I will, too.

agenda of some supporters of Israel who try taint Islam to undermine the Palestinians. Palestinians would have their own state if they didn't vote a terrorist organization into their government. This is lunacy.

As another FReeper stated (and I don’t recall who it was), mosques are just military installations.
Kind of like the Trojan horse, IMO.

YEAH! And we’re still letting them in....WHY? We should be able to vote on who gets into our country. I don’t want to risk my safety to show how tolerant I am.

The only problem is, "mainstream" Muslims have given us no reason to do so.

Six years after the Sept. 11 attacks, Americans should distinguish between mainstream Muslims and the radical fringe, the leaders said. Well fine, if that's what Muslims want, then here are just a few ways in which YOU (Muslims) can cause it to come about:
- Get the chip off of your shoulder. Islamofascists are the ones we're at war with, and if you're not an Islamofasicst then you have nothing to worry about.
- America wants to see massive Anti-Terrorism and Pro-America rallies organized by Muslims in every major city.
- Turn your radical brethren in to authorities....stop hiding them.
- Erect a big flagpole in front of every mosque and properly display an American flag there at all times.
- Open your mosques for all to inspect and let the light of Freedom shine in all corners
- Develop in interest in American Patriotism. If you are unsure what that means and need it defined, go to any VFW hall....they will be happy to help.
- Assimilate into American culture....Americans don't like seperatists.
- Repeat these words after me: "Republicans are not evil, they are our Friends"
- Stop pushing the "victimhood" crap such as the "flying imams" and other media hysterics.
- Applaud legal scrutiny of other muslims....you've got nothing to hide, right?
- Alert authorities to any illegal activities within 'the muslim community'
That's a start....we'll update it as is necessary.

It has been mentioned that the next attack on the U.S. could come in the form of a large number of simultaneous Beslan style school massacres. May I suggest to those Muslims already living here that you establish your "PEACEFUL MUSLIM" credentials EARLY & OFTEN
Really now . . . do I look like a terrorist ?
God forbid these attacks should happen but if you don't speak up all I can say is . . . remember Manzanar ! ! !
