Terri Schiavo's Family Continues Effort to Block Jack Kevorkian UF Speech

Gainesville, FL (LifeNews.com) -- The family of Terri Schiavo is continuing its efforts to block a speech by Jack Kevorkian scheduled for the middle of next month. The speech would be the first for the former assisted suicide crusader following his release from prison for killing a disabled man and showing the death on national television.

Kevorkian would speak to students at the University of Florida on October 11 and receive $50,000 for the talk, as long as his parole officers approve the trip.

The family of Terri Schiavo has been leading an effort to stop the speech by gathering petitions from concerned citizens so Kevorkian doesn't get a platform in their home state.

They don't want the former pathologist telling students that people with disabilities should be killed, like their sister, rather than receiving appropriate medical treatment or rehabilitative care.

Bobby Schindler, Terri's brother, told LifeNews.com, "We have collected thousands of petitions (and they are still coming in) to deliver to the Office of the President of the University of Florida."

"We're demanding the University rescind its offer to pay $50,000 for Kevorkian to address the students," he added.

"Despite the ongoing message of death spreading through our society and those, like Jack Kevorkian, who attempt to justify killing the most vulnerable among us, we are committed to fight against this death-obsessed culture and spread Terri's legacy of life, hope and love," Schindler explained.

He said there is still time for pro-life people and others worried about Kevorkian's pro-assisted suicide message to sign a petition asking the University of Florida to cancel the speech.

The petition can be found at the Terri Schindler Schiavo Foundation web site.

We have an example of why I am wary of our Judiciary, given their role in furthering Terri's death. Wagglebee gives a glimpse in this thread.

When Rosa Acuna learned she was six weeks to eight weeks pregnant, she asked if she was carrying a baby at that stage. Her doctor replied that her fetus was "not a living human being," but rather "just tissue at this time." As a result, Rosa agreed to an abortion.

She suffered emotional distress upon discovering later that the abortion had indeed killed an existing human being. While expressing sympathy for Rosa's "deep pain," the court dismissed her claim against the doctor.

The court conceded that doctors must disclose all information that a reasonably prudent patient would find material before deciding to undergo a medical procedure. What could be more material than the one direct question the patient finds important enough to ask?

It is now clear that a “death cult” has taken root within Islam. These fanatical enemies of freedom will as soon rain death and mayhem upon a schoolyard of innocent children (Muslim as well as non-Muslim) as they will attack a military vehicle.

Wells’s novel grew out of his revulsion at what people were doing to animals. Today, the real source of horror is what man is doing to himself.

Wells’s villain used surgery to create his monsters and had to flee civilization to pursue his inhuman goals. Today’s would-be Dr. Moreaus not only have a much more powerful tool—genetic engineering—but they also have their government’s official blessing.

Skeptical social conservatives will read that as Huckabee would let laws get in the way of standing by principle. That is giving Huckabee too much credit. Huckabee has no regard for Terri's Law being illegal. The Florida Supreme Court ruled Terri's Law overstepped the separation of powers.

But yet, Huckabee wins the Values Voters debate straw poll, when we know that Brownback, Hunter and Keyes supported Congress helping Terri 100%, so Brownback, Hunter and Keyes are pro-life from conception to NATURAL death, but Huckabee is weak on the NATURAL death end of the life issue.

Also, Huckabee came in 2nd in the Iowa straw poll (even though he spent little money), and I heard a political analyst say it was because of the life issue.

Huckabee is a great speaker on the life issue, but I guess the straw poll voters don’t know Huckabee is weak on protecting the disabled, when he wasn’t sure if Congress should have intervened to help Terri.

We have our work cut out for us in getting the word out.

The case is complex due to poor work at the DeSoto County courthouse. She didn't do anything. No thefts, no physical violence, no money came to her... The judge said it "was a victimless crime." Well, there was no crime! She' a Christian, maybe that's the charge against her.
