Democratic presidential hopeful John Edwards said on Sunday that his universal health care proposal would require that Americans go to the doctor for preventive care.
"It requires that everybody be covered. It requires that everybody get preventive care," he told a crowd sitting in lawn chairs in front of the Cedar County Courthouse. "If you are going to be in the system, you can't choose not to go to the doctor for 20 years. You have to go in and be checked and make sure that you are OK."

When you become a child of the state, it is only fitting that you obey the parent.
This silly idea will at least double health costs. Some people, like me, only go to a doctor when they feel like something’s wrong. If you go to a doctor, even if there is nothing wrong with you, and you complain about this little pain in your side or your leg or your shoulder, you’re going to end up with several tests and maybe even surgery that might harm you in the long run, not to mention lots of drugs with adverse side effects.
Yup. In totalitarian systems, choice is not available.
Those who own you must ensure that their property is in functioning order.
Worse yet, it would also require you to get vaccinations.
anytime you want to feel worse, visit a doctor
Illegal immigrants can do all our work while we are all waiting in line for the check-up.
In early 2004 he was also saying that high school students should be required to perform community service in order to get their diplomas. His advocacy of involuntary servitude didn’t appeal to everybody, so he washed it out of his website before November.
I’m going on forced vacation’s??? Ooops .... my bad .... I read it wrong. I thought I was going to have to learn French. What a Maroon this guy is
What an absolute terrible concept.
Brace yourselves, folks. He’s as much of a socialist totalitarian as Hillary, and a lot smoother. And he will be the nominee.
The Nanny State has already mandated seatbelts, helmets.
Why not shoelaces?
Can you imagine the number of injuries arising because of untied, broken or missing shoelaces? The impact on the public purse of government healthcare is significant enough to warrant...

There aren’t enough doctors for this. There aren’t enough nurses.
There’s not enough money in the world for this.
I have my own health care and don’t smoke. It is called “personal responsibility”. Being responsible for one’s own self seems to have been erroded when the Government is to supply all for cradle to the grave and everything is Society’s fault. Well, the erosion of Liberty and Freedom IS Society’s fault; especially the idiots who vote Dem. Thank God the illiterates that are being given voting rights won’t be able to know what lever they pulled and it is a 50-50 chance they hit the right one.
obesity is the next target of the nanny state. mandatory appointments mean mandatory preventative care which means everyone overweight will be punished by things like fast food and sugar taxes.
Apparently, chasing ambulances gives one an obsession with
health care.
The last time I saw a doctor was for a pre-employment
physical in 1976.
I think I’ll pass on Mr. Edwards. But then, he was at the bottom of my candidate list anyway.
It opens a whole can of worms.
You're forced to go to the doctor. Then can they mandate all the vaccinations and medication they deem appropriate (with the backing of the pharmaceutical industry, of course).
What if you disagree with the diagnosis? The course of treatment? The medication they want you to be on?
What sort of program will they institute to ensure compliance? Fines? Jail terms? Forced treatment?
Child neglect? Abuse? Your child put in foster care because you've been deemed an unfit parent?
And he also wants to get rid of the tax cuts for people earning over $200,000 per year. More and more people are fitting into that category but how long before he realizes that that's not producing enough income?
"The whole idea is a continuum of care, basically from birth to death," he said.
Nope. The whole idea is cradle to grave control of your life.
