David already had several wives at that time, it was his sleeping with ANOTHER man’s wife (and his murder to cover it up) that he was condemned for, NOT for the many wives he took before that time. See also 2Sam 12, God says he gave David many wives, and said he would have given him more as well. God would not do that if it was a sin for David to have them.
