Kinky Friedman eyeing gubernatorial bid as Democrat

AUSTIN — Kinky Friedman is considering entering the campaign for Texas governor in 2010 as a Democrat.

Friedman said the Democratic party, which hasn't won a statewide election in more than a dozen years, could use a nontraditional approach to connect with voters.

"I consider myself a Democrat in the mold of JFK, (former Texas Gov.) Ann Richards and (journalist) Molly Ivins," Friedman said.

During his campaign for Texas governor last year as an independent, Friedman couldn't overcome the financial and logistical clout of the two major parties, which he compared to the Crips and Bloods street gangs.

Friedman, an entertainer and novelist, finished behind Gov. Rick Perry, Democrat Chris Bell and Carole Keeton Strayhorn, the Republican state comptroller who ran as an independent.

"If God was running as an independent (in 2006), he couldn't have beat Rick Perry," he said.

Democratic Party spokeswoman Amber Moon said they welcome all Texans who share the party's values.

"But he might have a difficult time getting Democratic primary voters to support him considering that he came in fourth."

Kinky is a no-go. I won’t vote for him.

At least he will be more honest about his affiliation this time.

“...and (journalist) Molly Ivins”

So, Kinky considers himself a braindead windbag?

Somehow, in today’s climate, I don’t think someone named “Kinky” has much of a chance.

“...couldn’t overcome the financial and logistical clout of the two major parties...”

That, and the fact that voters with any sense knew that he was an attention whore trying to peddle his latest trite book.

Kinky is friends with the Bushes. I wouldn’t doubt it for a second that he ran as an independent to help Perry win re-election.

Yikes! John F. Kennedy could be considered a John Bircher compared to Richards, and especially Ivins. Kinky ought to stop chewing that Texas locoweed. It's numbing his brain.

Now there's a contradiction in terms. A traditional foreign-policy Conservative (by today's standards), the original drunken egomaniacal Bush-hating harridan, and a raving Socialist moonbat. Kinky needs to step away from the crackpipe.

It has never been unusual for Kinky to open his mouth before engaging his brain - it is the essence of Kinky.

Well, Kinky isn't good at thinking things through. He is just an entertainer. Maybe he meant that his is male (as was JFK), he is egotistical (as was Richards), and he is a windbag (as was Ivans).

Well DUH! I remember some on this board wanted to vote for this socialist dimwit! Here’s a hint on voting for someone who is a “celebrity”. If they couldn’t manage a successful career as something, they can’t manage a state!

Careful what you say about Ann around here. Check the thread when she died — from what I could tell, next to her, Jesus Christ Almighty himself was a VERY distant 2nd place as far as popularity goes. Reading the praise for her, on this site, when she died was sickening beyond description.

Question, was Kinky waving a cigar or talking about one when he spoke. I’ve noticed he’s one of those “I must NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER be photographed without a cigar, lest somebody doubt my humanity and/or manhood” types.

I couldn’t believe it when folks went to bats for this self-promoting gasbag. Kinky is always about Kinky. It is never more complicated than that.

Put the bong down Kinky. You got the ever-loving crap kicked out of you before. The burnt out freak types voted for you and they are the most you will ever get.

Ridiculous on both counts considering Perry is term-limited.
