But but but....the democrats are not the party of family values so prostitution, bj’s, 90K cash in freezers, etc., are really no big deal to them. The openly admit they are the party of no values which is why their scandals go pretty much underreported or ignored.

RE: Craig and Vitter

Bottom line - when a Republican starts acting like a Democrat, he has to go. That's not a double standard; that's having a standard and expecting people to live up to it.

Senator Vitter did something that many people have done, which is why they have a name for it and many people make a living at it. And he did it in private. Fortunately, or at least hopefully, he has never been blackmailed because of it. And it's unlikely that he will get caught doing that again.

Senator Craig? That's a whole new story, and the public reaction to it is a strong indication of how people feel about homosexuality in general. If he had kept his "habits" to himself, it would be no big deal and not a news story. But now it's public, and he needs to leave.

Still only rumors. Will you kick people out of office only on rumors?

It’s more like the Democrats forcing their standards and platforms on the Republicans, really. In other words, “you oppose gays, Craig was gay, so instead of admitting we Dems are right about it, you kick him out.” They then use that to portray Republicans as delusional.

... the difference between Vitter and Craig is that Craig admitted an offense which now later he is trying to get over turned.

But Craig didn't admit to any sexual behavior, gay or not.  That's part of what's bugging me about the coverage of this and the piling on, particularly by Republicans.

Larry Craig plead guilty to “disorderly conduct,” which may be an “offense” but it isn’t admitting to cruising for gay sex in a public washroom. At no time has he admitted to being gay or to trying to solicit sex from the gay baiting cop. If you listen to the audio tape of the "interview" by the police he reacts exactly as an innocent person would, IMO and continuous to insist that he didn't do what the cop says and that he wasn't soliciting anything.

He agreed to a plea and a fine for "disorderly conduct" to avoid a public trial and get on with his life. A cop can assert that someone is “disorderly” and there’s not very much a citizen can do to counter that claim. The police are presumed to be truthful 99% of the time in court proceedings involving such charges. It’s usually a no win proposition to try to fight that sort of charge.

What I want to know is how did the story get out into the public domain? Who leaked the information and why? This is starting to look more and more like a set up to me. Craig has been targeted by the left, particularly the pink triangle nihilists, for quite some time. Notice how this is repeatedly being tied to his vote against “hate crime” legislation that set aside special privileges and protections for gays and special punishments for anyone who “offends” them. I’m getting suspicious.

TW roundtable, this guy comes on “It’s not just Craig, it’s Vitter, it’s Ted Stevens, it’s the economy too (???), this could be the worst loss for the GOP since 1964 or even 1932!”

Hack.

No, Republican hypocrisy. Be fair. Dem’s have been thrashed at the polls by Republicans using family values issues, for years.

No, I think it's just ine set of standards. There is a set of expectations about Republican behavior, and when a Republican falls below those standards, that Republican has to go.

On the other hand, Democrats have no standards because they suffer from the soft bigotry of lowered expactations. Nobdy expects any decency from them, and very few get any.

And who cares if Senator Craig is a homosexual? It's his public behavior that matters, not what happens behind closed doors.

This is starting to look more and more like a set up to me.

I agree with all that you said, Phsstpok, and this in particular. But the thing that troubles me so much about the taped conversation is that Craig says that "You solicited me." What does a man who does not want to be "solicited" say to that at the moment? Shove off, buddy? I'm not a guy, so I can't say, but I would expect some kind of strong reaction. You don't necessarily have to threaten to beat them to a pulp, though that's been done I have been told.
