Gains limit Democrats' use of war in '08 races
The Washington Times ^ | September 2, 2007 | Donald Lambro

Cracks have appeared in the Democrats' once-unified opposition to the Iraq war, dimming their chances of using the issue to their advantage in the 2008 elections, Republicans say.

Four months before the first primaries, Republican leaders say positive reports — including some from Democrats — about President Bush's troop surge are convincing voters that the strategy should be given more time to succeed.

Security gains in Iraq not only divided the Democrats, but also put them on the defensive about an issue they thought would help them win back the White House, Republican leaders and party strategists say.

"Left-wing activists and their allies in Congress were banking on August as a watershed for the antiwar movement," House Minority Leader John A. Boehner said Friday. "But as the calendar turns to September, they're finding that these plans completely and utterly failed."

Republican lawmakers heard "less about Iraq, but more about immigration" during their August recess, a senior official in the House Republican leadership told The Washington Times.

Independent pollster John Zogby reported last week that Republicans, indeed, had made gains with voters on the Iraq issue during the past month, with 54 percent now believing the war can be won.

Funny how you can always tell what the latest Democratic strategy is by looking at what the MSM is concentrating on. Real funny.

News Alert: Pelosi ordered a burka for her trip to visit OBL to ask what else democrats can do to lose the war. Reid cries so hard that he can’t leave his office. Murtha checked in the hospital with heart problems. Kennedy ordered a truckload of whisky, and won’t leave his home or answer the phone. /sarc off

After Chappaquidick, it is probably best that Ted Kennedy doesn’t leave his house.

When Larry Craig leads the news instead of Iraq you know the surge is working.

That’s what you get from a bumper sticker based party.

You think DBM/dems have gone nuts with Iraq, wait until we have to take care of Iran!

The American people better get on board with the WOT because it's going to last, lifetimes!

For all the foibles Bush has gotten himself into because of his whimpy moderate stances, he at least has the fortitude and vision to take care of this terrorist/religious war justifiedly.

It is also what you would expect from a Party who lives by polls and whatever the popular opinion is of the moment.

As made famous in the 2004 election by the Democratic nominee:

I don’t think the Democrats are replaying Pelosi’s “Where are the jobs MR. President” from 2004.

And I don’t think they be replaying Reid’s “We’ve lost the war” video either.

And of course, there’s NO VIDEO AVAILABLE on Democrats talking about the subject of illegal immigration and our porous border to the south where thousand are crossing daily.

You are indeed "Always Right."

I remember distinctly in 1991 how the Democrats decided to go on the offensive on the economy against GHWB, even though the economy at the time was not all that bad. The next thing I knew, NBC was doing a series of reports on the weakness of the economy.

You would think they would have figured out by now that illegals aliens are not a good topic to win votes with either, of course they were counting on the illegal and dead person votes so I guess it makes sense to run all the sob storys on the tragedy of being an illegal, law breaking scum bag in America that the MSM has been doing since the crash of the great "comprehensive immigration reform" plan.

That's why Congress' Approval Ratings have plummeted to the lowest in history. I think I heard last night on the WSJ Report that it is somewhere around 19% now.
Don't ya love it?

“”Republican lawmakers heard “less about Iraq, but more about immigration” during their August recess, a senior official in the House Republican leadership told The Washington Times.””

This doesn’t surprise me at all.

Unfortunately, it is Democrats who harbor the most illegals in their sanctuary cities. without them, they would lose even more seats in Congress. Meanwhile transfer payments to them cost a lot.
