tsunami risk usually only from 7.5+ earthquakes unless there’s a huge landslide into the water

Better start working on your PC (Political Correctness). That chunk of water should hence forth be known as the “Gulf of Cortez” or should that be esta “Mar del Cortez” or "Guffo del Cortez"? I need a lot of remedial work on my Spanish lingo. Who knows, perhaps the USA will establish Remedial Language Camps for the likes of me in the near future.

I am guilty of demeaning your political correctness for using Gulf of California instead of Gulf of Cortez. You will note that I was hypercritical in my use of “USA” instead of what will be “USM” (United States of Mexico”) if the idiots in DC have their way.

Just chatted via email to my property manager down in El Comitan (across the bay from LaPaz) and there was no damage that they could see - just a deep rolling for about 30 seconds.

Magnitude 6.3 GULF OF CALIFORNIA
Saturday, September 01, 2007 at 19:14:22 UTC
Record Section
The record section below shows seismograms recorded on seismographic stations spanning the contiguous United States.
The seismograms are plotted as a function of distance with stations close to the earthquake at the top and more distant stations plotted at the bottom.
Zero time corresponds to the origin time of the earthquake.
The station name is plotted to the right.
For large earthquakes, you can see several seismic arrivals that travel different paths through the earth. Each trace is normalized to its maximum amplitude.
