FEC SENDS A MESSAGE

ACT Fined $775,000

The Federal Election Commission yesterday issued the latest in a string of six-figure fines against partisan political groups -- this time, against America Coming Together, a group financed by George Soros and labor organizations that sunk more than $100 million into campaign activities intended to help Democrats in the 2004 elections.

The decision to fine the group $775,000, the FEC's third-largest penalty in its three-decade history, was intended to send a stern message to independent groups. The FEC has said it will crack down on groups that raise unlimited resources outside of the campaign finance system but then spend that money on activities aimed at influencing specific elections.

Personally, I don't think it's Constitutional to bar or even regulate political contributions. But if the CFR act is now enforcible law by SCOTUS decision, and it is, I'm glad it caught up with Soros and his labor union cohorts who back Hillary and the Dems in general.

of course $775,000 is merely pocket change for Soros, but at least it's money that Hillary and Bill won't get their filthy hands on.

The decision to fine the group $775,000, the FEC's third-largest penalty in its three-decade history, was intended to send a stern message to independent groups.

"Our message is clear: years and years after your illegal activities have possibly changed the destiny of the nation, we will catch you and issue a nominal fine."

They should have intervened when it happened. Just another factoid in support of the thesis that you really can’t buy elections.

Ah yes, behold the power of Google!

http://www.fec.gov/press/bkgnd/history.shtml

This is the entire list of FEC finees. Number one was Freddie Mac, the mortgage lender. Number two was AudioVox, which I wouldn’t have guessed in a million years. Jesse Jackson’s Rainbow Push Coalition makes the list. So do the Swift Boat guys.

It doesn’t even rank as pocket change! Soros wouldn’t bend over to pick up $775,000 in the street!

I bet if they looked a little more; they could find other groups being financed by Soros that are doing the same thing. Would that put a dent in Ms Hitlery’s campaign chest?

"Our message is clear: years and years after your illegal activities have possibly changed the destiny of the nation, we will catch you and issue a nominal fine."

Thanks for making that correction. The fine in this case barely even qualifies as nominal. Somewhere right now Soros is probably celebrating the FCC's "message" by buying another round for his hangers on and laughing uproariously at the FEC's idea of a stiff fine.
