f Senator Larry E. Craig resigns Saturday as expected amid accusations that he solicited sex in an airport restroom, his successor will be chosen by a fellow Republican who knows better than most what voters in this deeply conservative state will tolerate when it comes to the private behavior of public officials. ....
Some top Republicans say that the relationship between Mr. Otter and Mr. Risch is frosty, that their styles are different and that Mr. Otter would prefer someone like Mr. Simpson, a conservative from eastern Idaho with whom he served in Congress. Mr. Simpson has made nuclear energy and waste top priorities.
Either Mr. Risch or Mr. Simpson would probably have strong party support if he ran for a full term in 2008. How an interim Republican senator would fare in next years election is open to debate.

LOL Wonder who the top Catholic informants were.
Hes not a fair-weather friend, Jon Hanian, a spokesman for the governor, said of Mr. Otter. This whole kind of cowboy ethos is what hes about. He believes that when the chips are down and the going gets hard, you dont throw somebody to the wolves.
Oh don't forget the white supremacists. That always makes for lurid reading for the oh-so-better-than-you Northeastern chattering class.
PS Loved the "Terra Incognita" comparison. Priceless...
Private? What has Mr. Yardley been smoking? This was solicitation for sex in a public restroom in a busy airport. Nothing "private" about it.
If Risch and Otter have frosty relations, wouldn’t Otter want to get rid of him by putting him in the US Senate and getting him out of Boise?
No reason not to find a Reagan Republican who is a combat veteran. There are plenty of young ones who’ve retired into the area.
